New Volvo EX60 ‘changes the game’ with 503-mile range

  • Volvo EX60 revealed in full
  • Electric sibling to Volvo XC60
  • Massive 503-mile range
  • Pips the 500-mile BMW iX3
  • Power of up to 680hp
  • Rugged EX60 Cross Country also launched
  • Order books for Volvo EX60 open, priced from £56,860

Volvo has unveiled its all-new EX60, a mid-size electric SUV that promises to shake up the largest electric vehicle segment.

Combining class-leading range, charging speed, performance, and price, the EX60 boasts mass appeal and should prove much sought-after.

It’s priced from £56,860 and you’ll be able to lease one imminently.

Expect the BMW iX3 to be one of its key rivals, with the Audi Q6 e-tron being another.

Here’s everything you need to know.

What electric range does the Volvo EX60 have?

The EX60 delivers a best-in-class 503 miles on a single charge in its top-spec P12 AWD Electric variant, beating both Volvo’s previous EVs and pretty much all competitors in its segment.

Even a quick coffee stop is enough to add 211 miles of range in just 10 minutes using a 400 kW fast charger.

Volvo CEO Håkan Samuelsson says: “The new, all-electric EX60 changes the game in terms of range, charging and price. With this car, we remove all remaining obstacles for going electric.”

The EX60 is available in seven variants, covering all lifestyles.

Rear-wheel-drive P6 models offer up to 385 miles of range, while the P10 AWD delivers up to 410 miles. It’s the AWD P12 that delivers the 503-mile range - and which positively tops the class when it comes to EVs capable of going the distance.

How powerful is the Volvo EX60?

There are three different powertrains available when you lease the Volvo EX60; P6, P10, and P12.

The P6 is rear-wheel drive and gets 374hp, allowing it to sprint from 0-62mph in 5.9 seconds, which is slower than the entry-level BMW iX3 (though the Beemer is a shade more expensive).

The all-wheel drive P10 boosts the power to 510hp and shrinks the 0-62mph time to 4.6 seconds.

The range-topping P12, meanwhile, gets a whopping 680hp and can launch to 62mph from a standstill in 3.9 seconds.

That’s Porsche Taycan-quick and also eclipses the Audi SQ6 Sportback e-tron quattro.

How fast can the Volvo EX60 charge?

The EX60 can add up to 211 miles of range in just ten minutes when using a 400 kW fast charger.

Volvo tells us: “In other words, the EX60 turns range anxiety into range comfort and demonstrates that going electric is no longer a compromise. Design, engineering, hardware and software all work together to create a car that optimises driving range and matches many petrol cars.”

What are the standout design features of the Volvo EX60?

Built on Volvo’s new SPA3 electric vehicle architecture, the EX60 blends Scandinavian design with cutting-edge efficiency.

A low front, sloping roofline, and tapered sides give it a drag coefficient of just 0.26, contributing to its class-leading range.

Inside, a long wheelbase and flat floor maximise rear legroom and storage space.

Smart storage solutions, premium natural materials, and optional extras like a 28-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system with headrest speakers and Apple Music with Dolby Atmos turn the cabin into a calm, versatile, and immersive space.

Is the Volvo EX60 safe?

The EX60 is billed as Volvo’s most intelligent car yet, powered by the HuginCore system. It is the first Volvo to launch with Gemini, Google’s new AI assistant, allowing natural, personalised conversations and seamless control of the car’s functions.

Infotainment is faster than ever, with instant map loading, responsive screens, and improved voice recognition.

Safety remains at the core of Volvo’s ethos. The EX60 features a reinforced boron steel safety cage, advanced restraints, and Volvo’s multi-adaptive safety belt, offering personalised front-row protection. Sensors continuously monitor the surroundings, while over-the-air updates mean the car’s safety and technology improve over time.

What about the Volvo EX60 Cross Country?

On the same day that Volvo revealed the all-electric Volvo EX60 to the world, it also gave us a look at the incoming EX60 Cross Country.

Like Cross Country models of old, you get all the best bits of the regular EX60 but with a more ‘robust and expressive look’.

In short, it’s for outdoorsy folk and those who need to tow a horsebox with regularity.

The EX60 Cross Country gets unique alloys, skid plates in brushed stainless steel at the front and back, wider wheel arches, and a higher ride height (raised by 20mm).

With the help of the standard-issue air suspension, drivers can add another 20 millimetres of riding height if needed.

While the regular Volvo EX60 is already available to order, you’ll have to wait a little longer until the EX60 Cross Country is up for grabs.
