- Jaecoo 7 SHS (aka ‘Super Hybrid System’) best-selling plug-in hybrid in August
- According to Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT)
- Jaecoo 7 currently Select’s most enquired-upon vehicle
- Also available with traditional petrol engine

Here’s living proof that newcomers can mix it with the big boys - because the Jaecoo 7 is currently the most popular plug-in hybrid in Britain.
That’s according to the latest August sales stats from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
It means the Jaecoo 7 (SHS) - aka the ‘Super Hybrid System’ - has ousted some big hitting PHEVs from the top of the chart.

Jaecoo 7 lease deals
It’s no surprise here at Select Towers.
The Jaecoo 7 is currently our most enquired-upon vehicle, full stop, and the 7 isn’t just confined to having a plug-in hybrid powertrain as there’s also a traditional petrol model available, too.
Overall in August, the Jaecoo 7 was 6th in the run-down of best-selling cars - beating the Audi A3, Vauxhall Corsa, MINI Cooper and MG HS, who made up the rest of the Top 10.
And it was only narrowly behind the all-conquering VW Tiguan (1,526 sales compared with 1,367 sales for the Jaecoo).
For a car that was only launched this year, and with lots of motorists still finding their feet when it comes to Chinese manufacturers, the Jaecoo 7’s success story is nothing short of remarkable.
Gary Lan, CEO of Jaecoo UK, said: “This latest accolade for the Jaecoo 7 SHS just goes to show the power of our product, our team and dealer network. Recognition like this further reinforces our commitment to delivering innovative, high-quality vehicles that meet the needs of drivers across the UK; with powertrains that plug into the specific market and needs of our customers, too.”

Jaecoo 7 petrol vs hybrid
The main choice you’ll need to make with a Jaecoo 7 lease is whether to go for the standard petrol engine or the plug-in hybrid.
The petrol is underpinned by a 1.6-litre engine producing 147 PS and 275 Nm of torque. Expect fuel economy of around 37 miles to the gallon. And the good news here is that the regular petrol engine can also be equipped with all-wheel drive (when you opt for the range-topping Luxury trim).
The PHEV is more powerful and makes use of a 1.5-litre petrol engine and 18.3 kWh battery. Power of 204 PS and 310 Nm of torque drives the front wheels and gives you an electric driving range of up to 56 miles.
Neither models are particularly quick, but it’s the plug-in hybrid Jaecoo 7 that’s faster off the line, doing 0-62 mph in 8.5 seconds.

Jaecoo 7 features UK
One of the BIG reasons the Jaecoo 7 has proved so popular - besides its styling being lovingly likened to the Range Rover Evoque - is the amount of kit you get as standard.
There are two trim levels with the Jaecoo 7; entry-level Deluxe and range-topping Luxury (AWD as standard).
Those cheapest Deluxe variants are absolutely dripping in kit as standard. You get, among other things, a 13.2-inch touchscreen, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, synthetic leather seats, ambient lighting, and a panoramic roof.
The Luxury trim adds extras like a larger 14.8-inch portrait display, heated and ventilated seats, a cabin air purification system, and all-wheel drive.

Jaecoo 7 dimensions boot space
The Jaecoo 7 weighs in at 4,500mm long, 1,865mm wide, and 1,680mm tall.
That makes the Jaecoo 7 almost identically-sized to the Hyundai Tucson (another medium-sized SUV that’s also available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain and all-wheel drive).
Other comparably-sized cars are the Peugeot 3008 and the fully electric BYD Atto 3.
With the petrol versions of the Jaecoo 7, you get a 580-litre boot which expands to 1,265 litres with the rear seats folded flat. The all-wheel drive and PHEV models have a slightly reduced luggage capacity of 500 litres.
How does that compare with rivals? The regular petrol Hyundai Tucson gets a larger 616-litre boot while the PHEV variants make do with 558 litres. So, bigger than the Jaecoo 7 but not by a massive amount.
The Peugeot 3008 falls somewhere in between, with the boot space maxing out at 588 litres.

Jaecoo 7 review
Our amazing reviews writer Tim Barnes-Clay (pictured above) road-tested the Jaecoo 7 earlier this year and was impressed enough to describe how the SUV ‘offers good enough looks, a lovely interior, is well equipped, and has a spacious cabin, which will suit anyone of any size – and the SHS plug-in hybrid's impressive all-electric range sweetens the deal’.
