This is the powerful new Vauxhall Grandland AWD - an electric SUV that’s quicker than some hot hatches!

The regular Grandland Electric is a family-friendly lease vehicle with power of up to 213 PS (while a mild-hybrid powertrain is also up for grabs with 136 PS).

This new Grandland AWD, however, ups the ante in more ways than one.

Firstly, it’s all-wheel drive, with Vauxhall saying the system provides ‘optimal stability, especially on slippery surfaces’.

Secondly, a 73 kWh battery now provides oomph to two electric motors (one on the front axle, another on the rear) while developing power of 325 PS and 509 Nm of torque.

To put that 325 PS power figure into perspective, it’s actually more than you get with most versions of the sporty CUPRA Tavascan.

The Grandland Electric AWD can also accelerate from 0-62 mph in 6.1 seconds - which is more rapid than bona fide hot hatches like the Alpine A290 or Abarth 500e.

There are four drive modes to choose from, including front-wheel drive ‘Normal’, ‘AWD’, and ‘Eco’, where power is dialled down to 215 PS.

The ‘Sport Mode’, meanwhile, has a 60:40 power distribution between the front and rear axles for ‘dynamic and efficient performance’, says Vauxhall, while the steering and accelerator responses are also sharpened.

Style wise, there’s an illuminated front grille and lit ‘VAUXHALL’ lettering at the back. You get sporty aero inserts on the front and rear bumpers alongside 20-inch alloys.

You also still enjoy a 311-mile max range. The front-wheel drive Grandland tops out at around 323 miles, though a Long Range model with a larger battery and the ability to journey 425 miles between trips to the plug is due to arrive this year.

Rapid charging at 160 kW DC can replenish the energy in the battery from 20% to 80% in around 26 minutes.

Vauxhall Managing Director, Steve Catlin, said: “Our top-of-the-range Grandland SUV is a milestone for Vauxhall, having proven very popular since we opened the order books last August. Customers already have the choice of fully electric drive or 48-volt hybrid powertrains, and now we are expanding that offering with the Grandland Electric AWD. The new all-wheel drive addition ensures that our customers can enjoy maximum efficiency and safety in diverse weather and road conditions, combined with plenty of driving fun.”

Prices are still to be revealed with the Grandland Electric AWD set to arrive in the autumn of 2025.

Rivals to the Vauxhall Grandland Electric will include SUVs like the Tesla Model Y, Skoda Enyaq and Kia EV6

This is my second lease car through Select Car Leasing. My Account Manager was Jason Hattingh and I couldn’t have wished for a better person to deal with. From start to finish Jason was amazing and nothing was too much trouble for him during my journey. Everything was clearly explained to me, all phone calls were answered quickly, I received swift responses if I needed information and assistance. Jason’s after sales service proved to be just as positive when I had a minor technical problem which he resolved immediately for me. Jason is an excellent ambassador for Select Car Leasing and his Customer Service skills and support provided are indeed second to none. Many thanks Jason
