Car Leasing With Insurance

Select Car Leasing does not currently offer an all-in-one car lease package that includes insurance.

Instead you’ll need to obtain fully comprehensive car insurance yourself through the usual channels - and provide proof you’re covered.

For complete protection, your fully comprehensive insurance must commence the day of vehicle delivery and remain in place for the duration of your lease agreement.

Is insurance automatically included when you lease a car?

As outlined above, insurance is not included when you lease a vehicle with Select. The onus is on the customer to source fully comprehensive insurance for their lease car or van and Select doesn’t currently offer an all-in-one car leasing with insurance solution.

All brand-new vehicles leased with Select do, however, come with breakdown cover and road tax automatically provided. You’re protected by a manufacturer’s warranty and you can add an additional maintenance and servicing package to your lease deal for extra peace of mind.

Select has also partnered with warranty experts MotorEasy to help protect your vehicle in the event of an accident or for unforeseen damage. The alliance offers GAP Insurance, Alloy Insurance, Tyre Insurance, Cosmetic Insurance, and extended warranties. For a free quote, head to our Select & MotorEasy pages.

Car leasing and insurance: Some helpful tips and things to remember

Need more information about securing insurance for your lease car? Here’s a quick lowdown for both Personal and Business lease customers:

  • Customers need to arrange their own fully comprehensive vehicle insurance.
  • Fully comprehensive insurance must be in place for the duration of the lease contract, from the day of delivery to the day you hand it back to the finance company.
  • The firm providing your insurance must be told that you’re seeking cover for a lease car, and that the finance provider is the OWNER of the vehicle, not you.
  • The lease funder remains the registered keeper of your vehicle and it’s their name that will appear on the V5C logbook issued by the DVLA.
  • When leasing a personal vehicle, the person named on the agreement should be the main insurance police holder or named driver on the certificate.
  • For business leasing, the company or director’s name should be the main insurance policy holder on the insurance certificate.

Remember: When obtaining insurance, you must tell the company providing the policy that you’re insuring a leased vehicle, while providing the name of your finance provider (the registered keeper of the vehicle). It shouldn’t affect the price of your premium, but it’s crucial the insurance company know it's a lease in case you need to make a claim further down the line.

Car leasing with insurance FAQs

No, car leasing does not typically come with insurance as part of a package. A typical Select Car Leasing deal will come with the cover of a manufacturer’s warranty (on brand-new lease cars), as well as road tax and breakdown cover, but does not include insurance, maintenance and servicing, or GAP protection. Used car leasing can differ compared with leasing a brand-new car, so please call for more details.

No, Select Car Leasing does not currently offer an all-in-one leasing with insurance package. Customers must instead secure their own fully comprehensive cover for the duration of the lease agreement.

The manufacturer’s warranty does not include regular servicing - and it’s essential you keep up with the servicing and maintenance of your lease car as a stipulation of every Select Car Leasing deal. An optional maintenance package covers you for all scheduled servicing as well as any repairs that are required.

Yes, breakdown cover is automatically included when you choose a car with Select Car Leasing. It's a comprehensive package from industry leaders the RAC. It also comes with a 48-hour courtesy car should your car need repairing. We’ll make sure you’re back on the road as soon as possible.

If you find yourself in the unfortunate position that your lease car has been stolen, make sure you notify the police as soon as you can and make a note of any crime reference number. Once you’ve got this, make contact with both your insurance company and your lease vehicle funder.
