Volkswagen has confirmed power and range figures for the incoming ID. Polo - and the electric hatch gets a range of up to 280 miles between charges.
The ID. Polo has been teased for some time now and is currently undergoing final testing ahead of its full launch next year.
With an increase in passenger space and VW boasting about the car’s ‘precise driving characteristics on the level of the next higher class of vehicle’, the ID. Polo means business.
Here’s everything we know:

What battery and range does the VW ID. Polo have?
When the ID. Polo hits UK roads in 2026, it’ll be available with a choice of two different batteries; a 37 kWh unit and a larger 52 kWh pack. All models will be front-wheel drive.
For the regular ID. Polo, you’re looking at power of between 116 PS and 211 PS and a range of up to 280 miles between charges.
There are actually three different power outputs; 116 PS, 135 PS and 211 PS. The first two use the 37 kWh battery and enjoy rapid charging at up to 90 kW.
The latter 211 PS powertrain gets the larger 52 kWh battery, the greatest range between trips to the plug, and rapid charging at up to 130 kW DC.

And then there’s the ID. Polo GTI - which will pretty much be treated as a separate entity.
The GTI variant also uses the larger 52 kWh battery but, perhaps interestingly, doesn’t actually get a big hike in power compared with the most potent regular car. The ID. Polo GTI enjoys 226 PS - just 15 PS more than the standard ID. Polo.
Still, the ID. Polo GTI will get shoutier styling, sportier suspension and uprated brakes, so there’ll still be plenty to savour.
It should also wipe the floor with the petrol VW Polo GTI in terms of performance, too, with the current Polo GTI packing 207 PS and capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in a fairly sensible 6.5 seconds.

How big is the VW ID. Polo compared with the petrol VW Polo?
The ID. Polo is 4,053 mm long, 1,816 mm wide and 1,530 mm high.
Those dimensions mean the leccy Polo is actually slightly shorter than its petrol sibling - but also a bit wider and taller.
So, while the ID. Polo’s proportions remain fairly consistent, the big news is that there’s an extra 19mm of interior length compared with the petrol model and the boot space has jumped from 351 litres to 435 litres.

That’s a big shift - with the ID. Polo boasting a boot that’s bigger than both the VW Golf (up to 381 litres) and the VW ID.3 (up to 385 litres).
Fold the rear seats flat and you also get 1,243 litres of luggage space.
VW tells us: “This extra space makes the always four-door, five-seater ID. Polo more versatile than any of its predecessors - perfect for city life and everyday use with friends and family.”

How much does the VW ID. Polo cost?
UK prices haven’t been confirmed just yet but VW says the ID. Polo will have a starting price of 25,000 euros - the equivalent of around £21,950.
That should make it competitive when compared to key rivals like the Vauxhall Corsa Electric, Peugeot E-208 and Renault 5 E-Tech.
The ID. Polo also represents the first in a slew of new models from VW.

In 2026, the German firm plans to launch SIX new electric cars - with the second vehicle to arrive next year likely to be a compact crossover (which we’ve already glimpsed as the ID. Cross Concept, above).
Full specification for the ID. Polo in the UK will be confirmed soon.
