Trail-ready Jeep Recon confirmed for UK launch!

  • Jeep Recon confirmed for UK launch
  • Will arrive late 2026
  • Fully electric, fully capable
  • Power of 650hp, 840 Nm torque
  • Range of up to 250 miles
  • Doors optional!

The Jeep Recon is the first fully-electric SUV with removable doors and rear glass - and it’s set to arrive in the UK next year!

While the doors (and roof) might be optional, Jeep says adventure is a given with the Recon, despite it eschewing a traditional petrol engine.

Here’s everything you need to know:

What battery and powertrain does the Jeep Recon have?

A 100 kWh 400-volt battery underpins the Jeep Recon.

That unit unlocks power of 650hp alongside 840 Nm of instant torque - which is enough to accelerate the Recon from 0-62mph in just 3.7 seconds.

While the Jeep Recon is clearly built for the great outdoors, it still gets a range of up to 250 miles between charges, though full UK specs are still to be announced.

Why is the Jeep Recon pictured with no doors?

Good question. The Jeep Recon is the first fully-electric SUV to boast completely removable doors, rear quarter glass and swing gate glass.

You can also get rid of the roof, too.

No tools are required - you simply grab a few handles and away they go.

Why are removable doors a good thing for off-roading?

Well, we wouldn’t recommend it for a trip around the M25. But a lack of doors means better visibility on tight or precarious trails, allowing you to see precisely where your wheels are. It also means easier escape should your SUV get wedged between rocks or submerged in water.

Having no doors is also all part and parcel of the Jeep vibe - you can feel the wind in your hair and on the sun on your neck without being constrained by a cabin.

To that effect, Jeep has also stuck the Recon’s audio speakers under the seats, rather than in the door mounts, for when you want to drive in car skeleton mode.

Is the Jeep Recon capable off-road?

Yes, the Jeep Recon should prove adept off road. All variants will get Jeep’s all-wheel drive ‘4xe’ system with the ‘Selec-Terrain’ traction management wizardry.

That means at least four drive modes - Auto, Sport, Snow, Sand - while there’s also an electronic locking differential (which ensures torque is delivered to both rear wheels when engaged).

You also get a low-speed Selec-Speed Control for navigating challenging inclines and declines. Push a button and the Recon maintains a set speed, allowing you to concentrate on the steering instead.

If you’re driving in suburbia, rather than up the side of an active volcano, you can uncouple the front wheels and use rear-drive propulsion instead, which will have you travelling further on a single charge of the battery.

To help you climb every mountain and ford every stream, you also get a 34-degree approach angle, 34.5-degree departure angle and 23.5-degree breakover angle.

What’s the cabin of the Jeep Recon like?

As we’ve mentioned, UK spec is still to be confirmed, but Jeep says the Recon comes as standard with a 14.5-inch touchscreen, 12.3-inch driver display, and loads of physical knobs and buttons.

Will the Jeep Recon replace the Jeep Wrangler?

Sort of. Jeep is expected to halt sales of the Wrangler in Europe, with the iconic SUV throttled by more stringent emissions regs.

The Recon, while not being a direct replacement, should fill the hole that the Wrangler leaves in the firm’s line-up.

Prices are still yet to be announced, but we expect the Wrangler to cost from around £75,000 - which is less than half the price of a Mercedes-Benz G-Class Electric.
