This is the all-new Cayenne Electric - and it’s the most powerful production Porsche of all time.
Yep, it’s more powerful than the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT. And yes, it’s way more powerful than a Porsche 911 Turbo S.
And yet despite it packing some serious oomph, range-topping Cayenne Turbo Electric models are still capable of travelling up to 387 miles on a single charge.
No wonder, then, that Porsche says the battery-powered Cayenne is a ‘technological milestone’ for the German firm.

The new Porsche Cayenne Electric is priced from £83,200 for the entry-level model while the blur-inducing Cayenne Turbo Electric will set you back at least £130,900.
Looks wise, the Cayenne Electric gets a low bonnet, slim Matrix LED headlights, a gently sloping roofline, and illuminated Porsche lettering at the back.
The Cayenne Electric also enjoys a longer wheelbase (by 13cm) than the petrol Cayenne, which means more legroom in the back for passengers.

What is the new Porsche Cayenne Electric?
Rewind the clock back to 2002, and Porsche was preparing to take a brave step into uncharted territory.
Up until that point, Porsche was the purveyor of low-slung sports cars. And then the Cayenne happened, the world lost its mind.
The Cayenne SUV soon won over any detractors, being both a comfortable long-distance mile-muncher as well as adept off-road.
Now, after two decades of re-writing rule books, the Cayenne has followed in the footsteps of the smaller Porsche Macan by going electric for the first time.

What Porsche Cayenne Electric models are available?
The Porsche Cayenne Electric is initially available as two distinct models - and they’re very different.
Both are all-wheel drive and get the electronic Porsche Traction Management (ePTM) system.
While the petrol model is available in two body types (SUV and Coupe), the Cayenne Electric is offered in just one SUV guise.

Porsche Cayenne Electric (above)
The entry-level model is simply called the Cayenne Electric.
It’s underpinned by a 113 kWh battery that unlocks a range of up to 398 miles between charges and power of 442 PS and 835 Nm of torque (with Launch Control engaged).
That’s more than the entry-level, all-wheel drive Porsche Macan Electric, and enough to accelerate the Cayenne Electric from 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds.
Top speed is 143 mph.

Porsche Cayenne Electric Turbo (above)
The Cayenne Electric Turbo is much more potent.
It uses the same 113 kWh battery as the base Cayenne Electric but here the power shoots up to 1,156 PS and 1,500 Nm torque (with Launch Control activated).
That’s enough to catapult the Cayenne Turbo from 0-62mph in 2.5 seconds and up to 124 mph in just 7.4 seconds.
The Turbo variant also features direct oil cooling of the electric motor on the rear axle to ensure high continuous output and efficiency - an innovation borrowed from Porsche’s motorsports prowess.
Top speed is 162 mph.

How quickly can the Porsche Cayenne Electric charge?
Very quickly, is the short answer - and it also supports WIRELESS charging for the first time. And we’re not talking about recharging your phone here, we’re talking about remotely recharging the car itself.
In terms of plugging it in, the Cayenne’s 800-volt technology means it charges a DC rate of 390 kW - or up to 400 kW in specific conditions.
That means you can take the energy in the battery from 10-80% in just 16 minutes while adding around 200 miles’ worth of range takes 10 minutes.

The Cayenne Electric is also the first Porsche to support inductive charging. The idea here is that you park above a floor plate and the charging process then starts automatically, without you needing to plug in.
Porsche says Cayenne Electric owners will be able to purchase the wireless charging unit next year, and you’ll be looking to pay around £5,000 for the tech.
Besides static charging, Porsche says the Cayenne Electric moves the needle when it comes to energy recuperation, with Formula E levels of regen from braking.

What equipment comes as standard on the Porsche Cayenne Electric?
Both initial models are equipped with adaptive air suspension and the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system.
The Electric Turbo also features the Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) package with a limited-slip rear differential.
Standard-fit equipment for the base model includes 20-inch alloys, heated 8-way electric front seats, electric adjustable rear seats, a curved ‘Flow Display’ for the driver and separate 14.25-inch infotainment screen, automatic parking, 360-degree cameras, and a suite of safety systems that include lane change assist and adaptive cruise control.
The Cayenne Electric Turbo obviously gets the uprated powertrain with the ‘Sport Chrono Package’ including ‘Push-to-Pass’ (you get a boost of power for 10 seconds) and Track Endurance Mode.
You also enjoy added extras like larger 21-inch alloys, adaptive sports seats, a heated GT Sports steering wheel and a BOSE surround sound system.

How practical is the Porsche Cayenne Electric?
The battery-powered Cayenne gets a boot that measures 781 litres and which expands to 1,588 litres. Plus, you get an additional 90-litre front trunk.
The Cayenne Electric also gets a max 3.5 tonnes towing capacity.
