Ferrari showcases radical design with new F76

  • New Ferrari F76 revealed
  • Not a real car - a digital project
  • Available to buy as an NFT
  • Hints at radical Ferrari design of the future
  • Double cockpit and retractable headlights

This is the new Ferrari F76 - but it’s not the hypercar you think it is.

Rather than being a production model, the F76 is the firm’s first fully-digital vehicle and part of a new ‘virtual project’.

More specifically, this angular new Ferrari is a digital asset that’s available to buy as an NFT - aka a ‘Non-Fungible Token’.

What the heck is an NFT when it’s at home?

It’s a type of digital certificate of ownership that lives on a blockchain and acts sort of like a digital trading card. It only exists in digital form, where it can trade hands, and rumours suggest the Ferrari F76 NFT could cost clients as much as $100,000.

So, why is the Ferrari F76 even important if it only exists as an online sketch?

Well, the F76 is designed by Flavio Manzoni, the chap who led the teams that created proper, real-life Ferraris like the LaFerrari, F12 Berlinetta and the controversial Purosangue SUV.

Does the angular, squared-off, sharp-edged F76 represent the future of design for the Maranello manufacturer? Just maybe.

Double cockpit set-up and 'pop-up' headlights?

One striking thing about the F76 is that driver and passenger are separated by a ‘double fuselage’ set-up - which should prevent your loved one from scoffing all your boiled sweets on a long road trip.

A Ferrari spokesperson tells us: “The separation between the driver and passenger cells, which aligns the wheelbase with the cabins, allows for a new interaction between the underbody and the bodywork, with a central channel that transforms the car’s body into a wing, making the most of ground effect. The flows split at the front and rejoin at the rear, where a second wing sits atop the two tails, enhancing the efficiency of the unique diffuser.”

The front of the F77 takes the look of the new Ferrari F80 - with that suspended ‘band’ between the wings - and dials it up to 11.

There are also retractable headlights, which is a nod to the Ferraris of the 1970s and ‘80s that had pop-up headlights.
