Check out the new Leapmotor B05 - a sporty new electric hatchback that’ll compete with some market heavyweights when it launches next year.
Leapmotor is an ambitious Chinese manufacturer backed by global car giant Stellantis.
Up until now, the only Leapmotor hatch we’ve seen is the pint-sized T03, an affordable city runabout with utterly unintimidating looks.
The B05, however, is another thing entirely.
That sleek silhouette is reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, BMW 1 Series, and there’s also a whiff of the now-defunct VW Scirocco about it.
Leapmotor B05 dimensions and size
Measuring 4430 mm in length, 1880 mm in width, and 1520 mm in height - and with a wheelbase of 2735 mm - the Leapmotor B05 is in a class of compact hatchbacks that includes the MG4 EV, VW ID.3, Renault Megane E-Tech, and Vauxhall Astra Electric.
Leapmotor says it’s a ‘sport-looking C-hatch’ designed for ‘the new generations of urban trendsetters’.
There are 19-inch ‘Swift-Wing’ alloys and Leapmotor also promises agile handling.
Leapmotor B05 battery and range
While details are still to be confirmed, the Leapmotor B05 is expected to share an electric platform with the also soon-to-be-released Leapmotor B10 crossover SUV.
That means you’ll get a range of up to 270 miles between charges (when equipped with the largest 67.1 kWh battery) as well as power of up to 218 hp and 240 Nm of torque.
Fast DC charging up to 168 kW should enable a 30–80% charge in less than 20 minutes.
All versions of the Leapmotor B05 should also be well equipped as standard, with anticipated kit including a 14.6-inch floating touchscreen, panoramic glass roof, and complete ADAS package.
