- New Renault Clio unveiled
- Completely redesigned
- New coupe-like silhouette
- Increases in power across the board
- Swanky interior and tech borrowed from pricier Renaults
- New Renault Clio won’t arrive in the UK until early 2027

Sacré bleu! It’s the all-new Renault Clio - and it has been completely redesigned ahead of a 2027 launch.
The Clio is Renault’s best-selling car, full stop, with more than 17 million units shifted since its launch in 1990.
Now Renault hopes to flog even more examples of its stylish and affordable compact hatchback with this major overhaul.

Bruno Vanel, VP Product Performance, Renault Brand, says: “New Renault Clio combines a B-segment car's compact build with the performance and equipment of an upper segment model. It is versatile, efficient and well equipped, giving it everything of a great car.”
Here’s everything we know so far:

New Renault Clio - how does the styling compare to the existing model?
The current Renault Clio is already a bit of a looker, but the future model ups the ante when it comes to sportiness.
There’s a longer bonnet, an increased wheelbase (extended by 8mm), an integrated spoiler, and a swooping new roofline that apes the look of a compact coupe. It’s also taller than before (by 11mm), with Renault saying the proportions of the new Clio ‘rewrites the rules of the segment’.
The new front end is also eye-catching, with a prominent radiator grille decorated with diamond-shaped patterns and a fresh light signature.

Interior and tech changes for the new Renault Clio
Like the exterior, the interior of the incoming Renault Clio has been completely overhauled.
There are dual 10.1-inch screens boasting wireless smartphone screen replication and Google services built-in for the first time (as you get with Renault models further up the food chain).

A compact steering wheel has been borrowed from higher segment models and promises a more ‘agile driving experience’.
Practicality has also been given a boost, with a more accessible 391-litre boot (it’s 40mm lower than the previous generation) and more storage space in the cabin.

Does the new Renault Clio have more power than existing models?
In short, yes, the Clio that’ll hit the road in 2027 will be considerably more powerful than before.
At the moment, you can lease the Clio with either a traditional 1.0-litre engine with 90 hp or with a 1.6-litre full hybrid powertrain with power of 145 hp.
When the sixth-generation model arrives in showrooms, entry-level models will be equipped with a larger 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 115 hp in what Renault says is a ‘substantial performance boost over the previous generation’.

The other powertrain will be a punchier 1.8-litre full hybrid E-Tech with 160 hp, and which is already up for grabs with the likes of the Renault Captur.
With the full hybrid, acceleration from 0-62mph will go by in 8.5 seconds (well up on the 9.3 seconds of the existing full-hybrid Clio)
And, of course, this sort of hybrid means you never need to plug it in to recharge, as it does the job itself while on the move.
Renault promises CO2 emissions of 89 g/km and fuel economy of up to 72.4 mpg - which trumps the current full hybrid E-Tech 145 hp powertrain and is up to 40% more efficient than a conventional petrol engine.

What are the safety features of the new Renault Clio?
The new Renault Clio has more ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) than ever before - up to 29 of them, to be precise, depending on the trim.
These include Active Driver Assist intelligent adaptive cruise control (which made its segment debut in Renault 5 E-Tech electric), front and rear detection and emergency trajectory correction, automatic emergency braking in reverse, safe-exit alert for occupants and the emergency stop assist function, which slows the vehicle down to a complete stop in the event of driver inactivity.
A 360-degree reversing camera should make parking a doddle.

What are the alternatives to the new Renault Clio?
As before, the all-new Renault Clio will go up against a multitude of rivals in the supermini leasing category.
Those alternatives include the Vauxhall Corsa, Volkswagen Polo, and Toyota Yaris, the latter of which is also currently available with a frugal hybrid powertrain.
