- More power for BMW M performance models
- New 3.0-litre engine fitted to sporty 2 Series, 3 Series and 4 Series
- Extra 18 hp while torque up by 40 Nm
- Overall 392 hp with mild-hybrid assistance

Every little helps - which is why BMW has given an additional dollop of power to its most affordable M models.
We’re not talking about BMW’s fully-fledged ‘M’ cars here - the likes of the M2, M3 and M4.

Instead BMW is focusing on what it calls the ‘entry-level models into the world of BMW M’ - aka, the most sporty variants in the regular 2 Series, 3 Series and 4 Series line-up.
They are the M240i (Coupe), M340i (Saloon and Touring estate) and the M440i (Coupe, Convertible and Gran Coupe).

Those cars are all ‘xDrive’ all-wheel drive, and all share the same engine - a 3.0-litre unit that, up until now, has developed 374 hp and 500 Nm of torque.
Now, though, BMW is handing those cars a new and improved 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line petrol engine (still assisted with mild-hybrid tech) which improves things a fair bit.

The power has gone up to 392 hp while torque has jumped to 540 Nm.
As you might expect, the new mill means BMW M performance cars are now quicker off the mark.

The BMW M340i xDrive Saloon, for example, can now sprint from 0-62mph in just 4.3 seconds - shaving 0.1 of a second off the old time.
The models also benefit from what BMW calls a ‘significant increase in engine efficiency’.

With the BMW M240i xDrive Coupe, you get an improvement in fuel consumption from 32.3mpg to 35.3mpg. CO2 emissions have dropped, too, down to 183g/km from 200-199 g/km.
They’ll be available to lease soon, with production beginning in November or December 2025.
