- Two new high performance cars gifted to Italian Carabinieri

- Won’t be used to nab crims
- Will instead transport organs and blood in medical missions
Italy’s emergency response teams just got a hell of a lot quicker, after being gifted two new high performance vehicles.
A Maserati MCPura supercar and an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio have been handed to the Italian Carabinieri - the country’s military police force that also has civilian powers.
It comes thanks to a link-up between vehicle manufacturing heavyweight Stellantis (which owns both Maserati and Alfa Romeo) and the General Command of the Carabinieri.
While the rapid motors might have Italy’s criminals quivering in their balaclavas, the cars won’t actually be used to snare wrongdoers.
Instead, the MCPura and the Giulia Quadrifoglio have been designed for the urgent transportation of organs and blood.
Special on-board equipment also ensures ‘maximum efficiency in medical missions’, says Stellantis.
Both the MCPura and the Giulia Quadrifoglio will be capable of some seriously-rapid deliveries.
The Maserati MCPura (the successor to the MC20) boasts a twin-turbo V6 Nettuno engine chucking out power of 630 PS and which is capable of accelerating from 0-62 mph in just 2.9 seconds.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, meanwhile, is also powered by a twin-turbo V6 engine. Power of 520 PS enables the Giulia Quadrifoglio to sprint from 0-62mph in 3.9 seconds. The super saloon also enjoys a mechanical self-locking differential, rear-wheel drive and sports suspension.
While the partnership between Alfa Romeo and the Carabinieri is historic, this is the first time a Maserati car has been used by the force.
General Commander, Gen. C.A. Salvatore Luongo said: “The operational reliability of these vehicles is a vital tool for saving lives. And when we speak of saving lives, we refer to the highest mission an Institution can pursue, and the noblest service one can offer to their community.”
