- New CUPRA Leon VZ TCR revealed
- Hot hatchback pays tribute to VZ TCR race car
- Power of 325 PS and 420 Nm torque
- Most powerful front-wheel drive Leon ever
- But NOT the most powerful Leon that you can currently lease
- Pricing still to be confirmed

Behold the new CUPRA Leon VZ TCR - the most powerful front-wheel-drive Leon ever.
The extreme hot hatch is based on the Leon that competes in touring car championships around the world and comes with removable rear seats, strut bar and integrated net, bucket seats and aggressive exterior styling.
With power of 325 PS and 420 Nm torque, it’s got more poke than the equivalent front-wheel drive VW Golf GTI Clubsport, and almost as much oomph as the all-wheel drive Golf R.
The VZ TCR will be limited to just 499 models.
But this uber-exclusive TCR model also teases a more readily available Leon VZ model - which gets the same 2.0-litre engine with 325 PS and which is set to launch next year.
Dr. Werner Tietz VP of R&D at CUPRA, said: “The CUPRA Leon VZ TCR is a bold expression of what happens when racing meets road-going precision. Born from the track and crafted for the street, this limited edition captures CUPRA’s drive for performance, individuality, and the thrill of pushing limits.”

What powertrain does the CUPRA Leon VZ TCR use?
The CUPRA Leon VZ TCR is underpinned by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that develops 325 PS and 420 Nm torque.
It’s a front-wheel drive set up that’s linked to a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission. An integrated electronically controlled front differential lock (VAQ) helps offer greater control over the vehicle’s power delivery.
Acceleration from 0-62mph goes by in 5.6 seconds.
CUPRA says the limited edition VZ TCR ‘brings racing spirit to the street’, so it’s road legal - but it still gets an unrestricted top-speed capability for track day shenanigans.

CUPRA Leon VZ TCR - most extreme Leon yet?
The Leon VZ TCR is inspired by CUPRA’s touring car racing prowess, and it clearly shows.
Aggressive exterior styling includes a large roof spoiler, front and rear splitter, side skirts and diffuser, while there are also black carbon fibre wing mirror covers.
It sits on wide 245mm performance tyres and while Adaptive Chassis Control (DCC) is fully configurable according to your hoonigan tastes. Akebono brakes with 6-piston calipers provide the stopping power.

Is the CUPRA Leon VZ TCR the most powerful Leon available to lease?
No, it’s not.
While the CUPRA Leon VZ TCR is razor sharp, and also heralds the incoming, more widely available CUPRA Leon VZ next year, you can actually already lease a more potent Leon.
We’re talking about the CUPRA Leon Estate (above) with all-wheel ‘4Drive’.
Here the Leon gets power of 333 PS - the same as the VW Golf R - and it’s capable of sprinting from 0-62mph in just 4.8 seconds - ie, much quicker than the new Leon VZ TCR.
