A brand-new MG has accelerated into the UK leasing market - and the MGS6 EV is quicker than it might look!
MG’s move upmarket continues apace.
In recent weeks we’ve seen the executive-spec MG IM5 and IM6 being launched, cars that are built to give the likes of Tesla, Volkswagen and BYD a run for their money.
And now it’s the turn of theMGS6 EV - a family-sized electric SUV that sits a rung up from the smaller MGS5 EV.

While the MGS6 EV is positioned as a rival to the likes of the Skoda Enyaq, Renault Scenic E-Tech, Nissan Ariya and VW ID.4, with a starting price at £37,995 it’s actually a shade pricier than all of those alternatives barring the Skoda.
So, leasing this particular MG isn’t a ‘budget’ option. It’s very much punching at its weight while also taking aim at the more expensive Tesla Model Y.
The other thing you need to know about the MGS6 EV is that it’s quick, with range-topping models capable of launching from 0-62mph in just 5.1 seconds - which is faster than the all-wheel drive version of the Porsche Macan Electric.
The MGS6 EV also looks good, with its front end inspired by the spectacular MG Cyberster.
Here’s everything you need to know:

How big is the MGS6 EV?
The MGS6 EV is a proper, family-sized electric SUV that has roughly similar proportions to the Volvo XC60 while being slightly smaller than a Skoda Kodiaq.
At 4,708mm long, it’s not that much shorter than a BMW 3 Series Touring estate.

With that hefty size comes a generous boot that weighs-in at 674 litres, which is actually more than you get with the BMW i5 Touring estate. It’s huge for the class.
Besides the boot, there’s also a front ‘frunk’ that offers up to 124 litres of storage.
Despite the MGS6 EV’s proportions, it’s strictly a five-seater only (for now at least), which means there’s generous amounts of room in the cabin for passengers.

What battery, range and power does the MGS6 EV have?
All versions of the MGS6 EV are underpinned by a 77 kWh battery, which is more than you get in some rivals but falls short of the 87 kWh unit fitted as standard in the Renault Scenic E-Tech.
There are then three main variants to choose from; SE Long Range (RWD), Trophy Long Range (RWD), and Trophy Dual Motor (AWD).

Here’s the lowdown on each:
- SE Long Range: Power of 244 PS, 350 Nm torque, 0-62mph in 7.3 seconds, EV range of 329 miles, max speed 124 mph.
- Trophy Long Range: Power of 244 PS, 350 Nm torque, 0-62mph in 7.3 seconds, EV range of 329 miles, max speed 124 mph.
- Trophy Dual Motor: Power of 361 PS, 540 Nm torque, 0-62mph in 5.1 seconds, EV range of 301 miles, max speed 124 mph.
So, as you can see, RWD models get the same performance stats while the AWD Trophy Dual Motor is much more potent. To put its figure into perspective, it’s quicker to accelerate than pretty much all main rivals, including the vRS version of the Skoda Enyaq.

How fast does the MGS6 EV charge?
Rapid charging takes place at 144 kW DC, which isn’t particularly quick for the class but shouldn’t act as a black mark against it, particularly if you’re charging from home for the bulk of the time.
A 10-80% rapid charge should take around 38 minutes.

What equipment is fitted as standard with the MGS6 EV?
All versions of the MGS6 EV enjoy a 10.25-inch driver display and a 12.8-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
MG says it has also listened to customer feedback when equipping the S6 EV with plenty of physical dials and buttons.
Base Long Range models come with 19-inch alloys, fabric upholstery, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, rear privacy glass, silver roof rails, a rear parking camera, sat nav, and Vehicle to Load charging (which lets you power external devices, like your camping kettle, with the car’s battery).

The Trophy Long Range adds larger 20-inch alloys, a panoramic glass roof, leather and suede-effect upholstery, ventilated seats in the front, heated seats in the rear, a head-up display, 360-degree camera, power tailgate, ambient lighting, wireless mobile charging, and uprated 11-speaker audio system.
The most potent Trophy Dual Motor MGS6 EV gets the same spec as the Trophy Long Range but adds an additional electric motor to the front axle for much more power.

Is the MGS6 EV a safe car to lease?
Yes indeed, the MGS6 EV has already scored a maximum five-star score with industry safety assessors Euro NCAP. That includes a respectable 92 per cent score for adult occupant safety.
Seven airbags come as standard and you also get the ‘MG Pilot’ suite of safety software, which includes active emergency braking, four individual lane safety features, blind spot detection, intelligent speed limit assist, and a driver monitoring system.
