Mitsubishi L200 set for UK comeback as 2026 launch confirmed

  • Mitsubishi L200 pick-up comeback confirmed
  • Will arrive in UK summer 2026
  • Welcomed by tradespeople, rural users and fleets
  • Diesel power, all-wheel drive

Mitsubishi has confirmed that the L200 pick-up will return to the UK in the summer.

It marks the comeback of one of the country’s most recognisable and long-running pick-up nameplates.

The L200 will rejoin the UK market alongside the new Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV SUV, with both models arriving initially in limited numbers as Mitsubishi re-establishes its sales and dealer network.

Although Mitsubishi’s return to the UK had already been confirmed, this is the first time the company has formally stated that the L200 pick-up will form part of the relaunch.

Given the model’s long history and loyal following, its inclusion is likely to be welcomed by tradespeople, rural users and fleets familiar with the brand.

First launched in the UK in the mid-1980s, the L200 has been a fixture of the pick-up market for decades. Across six generations, more than 180,000 examples have been sold here, helping it build a reputation for durability, strong off-road ability and dependable four-wheel-drive systems.

The new seventh-generation L200 is already on sale in several global markets and is described by Mitsubishi as the most capable version yet. Its arrival comes at a challenging time for the double-cab pick-up sector, following recent tax changes, but Mitsubishi is clearly banking on the strength of the L200 name and its working-vehicle credentials.

Visually, the latest L200 adopts a tougher, more upright design, while inside it features a significantly updated cabin with improved materials, new infotainment technology and a more modern layout than previous generations.

Diesel power and proven four-wheel drive

Under the bonnet, the new L200 uses a comprehensively reworked 2.4-litre two-stage bi-turbo diesel engine. Mitsubishi has confirmed improvements in both power and torque compared with the outgoing model, although full UK figures are yet to be announced.

In Australia, where the model is already on sale (known as the 'Triton'), the engine produces 204hp and 470Nm of torque, giving a useful indication of what UK buyers can expect.

Four-wheel drive is handled by Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD-II system, allowing drivers to switch between two- and four-wheel drive as conditions demand. The system includes a centre differential lock, low-range gearing, and seven selectable drive modes: Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand and Rock.

Mitsubishi has previously stated that its UK comeback will be supported by more than 100 aftersales locations, with dedicated retail sites currently being appointed ahead of the 2026 launch.

Commenting on the announcement, Sharon Townsend, head of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, described the L200 as a “much-loved and respected” model, adding that the latest version brings significant upgrades in design, technology and performance.

When will it be here and how much will it cost?

Mitsubishi says that pricing, final specifications and on-sale dates for the L200 will be confirmed closer to launch. However, buyers should expect the L200 to sit slightly above the GWM Poer 300 and Isuzu D-Max pick-ups also imported by IM Group.
