The Ford Ranger PHEV has been named the International Pick-up Award (IPUA) winner for 2026, becoming the first hybrid model ever to take the title.
It’s yet another trophy for Ford’s best-selling pickup, which has now won the award four times in fifteen years.
The judging took place in Bulgaria, where an international panel of specialists put a range of new pickups through a tough mix of on-road and off-road tests.

The Ranger PHEV came out on top ahead of rivals, including the Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster, Foton V9 and the Maxus eTerron 9 and Maxus T60 Max contenders. One judge summed up the result: “If BEV’s not (yet) possible, go for PHEV.”
The Ranger PHEV pairs a 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol engine with a 75kW electric motor, giving a combined 281hp, 697Nm of torque and the same 3,500kg towing capacity as the diesel models. Jury chairman Jarlath Sweeney described the truck as offering “outstanding, class-leading performance with even greater efficiency and lower fuel costs for everyday journeys.”

Ford Pro Europe general manager Hans Schep accepted the award at the Solutrans show in Lyon, saying the recognition proves that the electrified Ranger still meets the expectations of working users. “The Ranger PHEV doesn’t just match the uncompromising performance our customers expect from a Ranger – it elevates it,” he said.
One feature that stood out to the jury was Pro Power Onboard, which lets the truck power tools and equipment directly from built-in sockets — a valuable upgrade for anyone working away from a mains supply.

This latest win follows Ranger victories in 2013, 2020 and 2024, making Ford the most successful manufacturer in the award’s history and reinforcing the Ranger’s position as Europe’s best-selling pick-up.
