Top 10 most popular vans leased in 2025!

These are the top 10 most popular vans leased in 2025 - with the electric Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo in the No.1 spot.

The list has been revealed by Select Van Leasing, the light commercial vehicle division of leading UK broker Select Car Leasing.

The top 10 covers new vans of all types and includes those with electric powertrains and traditional diesel combustion engines.

Leading the way is the VW ID. Buzz Cargo, having amassed the most number of lease contracts in 2025. It overtakes the diesel-powered Ford Ranger pick-up, which was the most popular leased LCV in 2024 with Select Van Leasing.

Sam Bryan, LCV and Re-Lease Manager at Select Van Leasing, said the ID. Buzz’s popularity illustrates how more and more businesses are recognising the benefits of going electric.

He said: “For the very first time, our most popular van of the year is fully electric; congratulations to the VW ID. Buzz Cargo.

“It’s a significant moment that shows how the landscape among UK van drivers is steadily shifting, with three of the vans in our Top 10 now being battery-powered.

“An electric van may not be suitable for all customers at this immediate moment in time, and we’ll continue to offer the best diesel and petrol LCVs on the market.

“But it’s clear that the reticence around eLCVs is loosening as more business owners take advantage of lower running costs and tax incentives. We’ll continue to help firms meet their zero-emissions objectives in 2026.”

Select’s van leasing top 10 differs from the overall list of most-registered new vans in the UK in 2025 as a whole - with the most popular lease vans influenced by specific deals and limited-time, discounted offers that brokers are available to secure with manufacturers and funders.

According to the latest data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the most-registered new van of 2025, as a whole, is the Ford Transit Custom (3rd in Select’s rundown), followed by the Ford Transit, Ford Ranger, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Vauxhall Vivaro.

Most popular lease vans of 2025 so far, according to Select Van Leasing

1 - VW ID. Buzz Cargo

Launched in 2022, the VW ID. Buzz Cargo combines a range of up to 276 miles between charges alongside a 785kg payload and 3.9m3 load volume.

2 - Ford Ranger

Ford’s versatile pick-up is still in-demand despite recent HMRC's tax changes that impacted double-cab pick-ups.

3 - Ford Transit Custom

The medium-sized offering in Ford’s commercial range, the Transit Custom is still the sweet spot for many customers.

4 - Citroen Berlingo

The Citroen Berlingo is king of the small vans, according to this list, and offers a load volume of up to 4.4m3.

5 - Volkswagen e-Transporter

Driven by some exceptionally cheap lease deals in recent months, the VW e-Transporter has bags of appeal - not least because of its 200-mile range and 1,000kg-plus payload.

6 - Nissan Townstar Electric

The third electric van in this list, the Nissan Townstar Electric is built for the cut and thrust of urban delivery.

7 - Vauxhall Vivaro

While sharing much in common with other Stellantis-manufactured vans, the mid-size Vauxhall Vivaro enjoys a max 1,400kg payload and 6.6m3 load volume.

8 - Peugeot Expert

A sibling to the Vauxhall Vivaro (see above), the Peugeot Expert is built for the graft and features a ‘Moduwork’ load-through bulkhead.

9 - Peugeot Partner

The Partner is Peugeot’s ‘commercial vehicle made for the city’ and offers a payload of up to 984kg and a 4.4m3 usable load volume.

10 - Nissan Primastar

What is van leasing?

Leasing is a method of financing a van. It essentially works like a long-term rental agreement that lets you drive the vehicle for a fixed period by paying monthly instalments, rather than having to buy it outright. Leasing is also known as Personal Contract Hire (PCH) for private individuals or Business Contract Hire (BCH) for companies - which is most commonly seen with van leasing.

Once you’ve selected a lease van, you agree on the contract length, set your annual mileage, and you can also add optional extras to the package, such as tech or cargo area upgrades.

You’ll also need to determine the size of your ‘Initial Payment’ - a lump sum paid at the beginning of a lease contract which works to lower your monthly fees. The Initial Payment isn’t a ‘deposit’ and it’s not returned at the end of the contact. The larger your Initial Payment, the lower your monthly fees.

Road tax and breakdown cover is automatically included in your lease deal, but you’ll need to arrange insurance yourself. At the end of your lease agreement, you simply hand the vehicle back to the leasing company - leaving you free to choose another lease deal.
