Alpine A390 set to undercut Porsche Macan Electric on price

  • Price confirmed for Alpine A390
  • Electric SUV starts from £61,390
  • Beats Porsche Macan Electric on price
  • More expensive than the new BMW iX3
  • Order books open ‘early in 2026’

Alpine has revealed prices for its incoming A390 - and its thousands of pounds cheaper than its nearest competitor, the Porsche Macan Electric.

The A390 is a big car for Alpine, being the brand’s first SUV and also fully-electric to boot.

While Alpine reckons the A390 is so unique in the market (being a swooping fastback SUV crossover with the handling of a two-seater) that it has no direct competitors, the Porsche Macan Electric is the big elephant in the room (below).

We now know that the Alpine A390 will begin at £61,390 - which is a cool seven grand cheaper than the entry-level Macan Electric (which costs from £68,600).

Even the range-topping A390 GTS is only priced marginally above the base Macan Electric, with the swankiest Alpine costing from £69,390.

But how do the Alpine A390 and the Porsche Macan Electric compare when it comes to performance, range, and equipment?

Alpine A390 vs Porsche Macan Electric: Range and charging

Let’s kick off our quick comparison with a look at the base models of both the Alpine A390 (the ‘GT’) and the Porsche Macan Electric (simply called ‘Macan Electric’).

Battery Size Range Rapid Charging Alpine A390 89 kWh 345 miles 190 kW (15–80 per cent charge in around 25 minutes)  Porsche Macan Electric 100 kWh 398 miles 270 kW (10% to 80% charge in about 21 minutes)

As you can see from the table above, the cheapest Porsche Macan Electric trumps the most affordable Alpine A390 when it comes to range and charging speeds.

But rapid charging at 190 kW ain’t to be sniffed at and the Alpine’s public charging skills should be ample for most.

An 11kW AC bidirectional charger is standard with the A390, with a 22kW unit available as an option and fitted as standard to the ‘Premiere Edition’ model (priced from £65,390).

There’s another important difference.

With the Alpine A390, all-wheel drive is a given on all models. With the base Porsche Macan Electric, you get rear-wheel drive.

The base GT grade also brings you Alpine Active Torque Vectoring so you don’t get bent out of shape in the twisties.

Alpine A390 vs Porsche Macan Electric: Power and pace

 Power/Torque 0-62mph Top speed Alpine A390 GT 400 PS / 661 Nm torque 4.8 seconds 124 mph Porsche Macan Electric  360 PS / 563 Nm torque 5.7 seconds 137 mph

So, the cheaper Alpine A390 has more get up and go than the base Macan Electric, being almost a second quicker in the 0-62mph sprint.

But remember that you get a good chunk more range with the Porsche - and that acceleration is arguably quick enough for you to be happy with that trade off.

If lighting-fast pace is what you crave more than anything else, you also need to check out the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, which is another rival for the Alpine A390 and which is perhaps surprisingly affordable to lease right now.

Alpine A390 vs Porsche Macan Electric: Equipment

Again, we’re looking here at the entry-level models for both the Alpine A390 and the Porsche Macan Electric. How much bang are you really getting for your buck?

The Alpine A390 GT (the base trim) is equipped with 20-inch alloys, adaptive headlights with LED Matrix tech, power tailgate, Alcantara and Nappa leather upholstery, heated sports seats, heated steering wheel, 12.3-inch digital driver display with a separate 12-inch infotainment touchscreen (Google services are automatically built in) and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

You also get a full suite of driver assistance and safety tech, including intelligent adaptive cruise control, emergency brake assist, advanced distraction recognition with emergency stop assist, side and rear parking assistance, and a 360-degree camera with around-view monitor.

It’s a very similar story with the Porsche Macan Electric.

You get 20-inch alloys, heated and 8-way electric front seats, power tailgate, parking sensors and a reversing camera, and a lovely 12.6-inch curved driver's display with a 10.9-inch central infotainment touchscreen.

Standard-issue safety tech includes lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert, exit warning, and swerve and turn assist.

So, there’s barely a cigarette paper between the two cars when it comes to spec - and the cheaper price of the Alpine A390 might just have you convinced.

When it comes to models further up Alpine A390 food chain, the range-topping A390 GTS gets larger 21-inch alloys, Sabelt sport seats that are heated and massaging, hands-free parking, and an uprated Devialet sound system.

Those GTS models also come with power of 470 PS, 824 Nm torque, and the oomph to blast from 0-62mph in just 3.9 seconds.

We’ll bring you leasing prices when they arrive!
