- ‘High-end crossover’, says Renault
- Moves the brand upmarket
- Powertrain details still to be revealed
- Built in Korea - and will be launched there first
Renault is plotting a move into more upmarket territory - and it’ll do it with this, the incoming new Filante.
The French manufacturer is keen to target customers with deeper pockets as part of what it calls a ‘global upscale shift’.
And the Filante - a ‘high-end crossover’ SUV - will lead the charge when it arrives in 2027.
Here’s everything we know so far.

What is the Renault Filante - and is it fully electric?
The Renault Filante is a new SUV crossover that’s set to arrive in 2027.
We don’t yet know what powertrain it’ll have, as those details are set to be confirmed later this month.
But what we do know is that the Filante is a ‘distinctive and daring’ vehicle with ‘avant-garde design’.
And Renault also says it’ll be a ‘disruptive vision for the E-segment’ - which strongly hints at it being fully electric, perhaps with the option of a hybrid engine thrown into the mix as well.
The Renault Filante will be built in Busan, South Korea, and initially launched there, too, before being rolled out to other global markets (including the UK).
The design is also inspired by the famous Renault Etoile Filante (the name means ‘shooting star) - a gas turbine-powered one-seater that aimed to smash land speed records back in 1956.
It ultimately notched a speed of 191 mph on the famous Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.

What is the Renault Filante Record?
The Renault Filante crossover isn’t to be confused with the Renault Filante Record, the latter of which is a concept car that has been pushing the boundaries of electric range in recent months.
At the end of 2025, the Filante Record managed to drive 626 miles in less than 10 hours, at an average speed of around 63mph, without recharging.
That, says Renault, shows what sort of range might be achievable with an EV when travelling at motorway-like speeds.

The ultra lightweight Filante Record also completed that feat with a relatively modest 87 kWh battery - the same size as the one powering the Renault Scenic E-Tech.
For now, the Filante Record is a ‘lab on wheels’ that’s being used to test electric-drive efficiency and which won’t be put into production.
But you can expect the tech it’s pioneering to trickle down to production vehicles - likely including the Filante crossover.
