Hurray for practical estates - and here’s a new one from Kia to whet the appetite!
While estates represent something of a declining segment when it comes to the UK lease market, Kia is keen to help buck the trend with this, the new K4 Sportswagon.
It’s a big-booted sibling to the Kia K4 Hatchback - which you can already lease with Select - and it’s set to join the party later in 2026.
Here’s everything you need to know.

What is the Kia K4 Sportswagon?
The Kia K4 Sportswagon is a new estate that’s arriving in the UK in 2026 - with precise launch dates and spec still to be revealed.
It’s a sibling to the Kia K4 Hatchback and, like the hatch, will be powered by either a traditional petrol engine or a mild hybrid powertrain.
Kia says you get 604 litres of luggage space - slightly down on what you get with the Skoda Octavia Estate (640 litres) and ever so slightly less than the VW Golf Estate (611 litres), but still ample.
The Sportswagon also has 166 litres more luggage space than the K4 Hatchback.
Kia says the K4 Sportswagon is ‘aimed at customers who require more space and flexibility combined with a dynamic and distinctive design’.
And it certainly looks the part, coming with Kia’s signature ‘Star Map’ lighting, hidden rear door handles, and modern lines everywhere you look.
The GT-Line trim is particularly easy on the eye, boasting gloss black wheel arch claddings, sportier bumpers, and a black ‘beltline’ (the bit that marks the bottom edge of the side windows where the glass meets metal).

What engines can you get with the Kia K4 Sportswagon?
As a successor to the now-defunct Kia Ceed Sportswagon, the Korean firm is going down the traditional route rather than any significant amounts of electrification… for now at least.
A 1.0-litre petrol engine offers 115 PS and is bolted to a six-speed manual transmission.
A larger 1.6-litre petrol mill provides either 150 PS or 180 PS and is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
And then there are the mild hybrids.
Again, it’s a 1.0-litre petrol unit with MHEV tech to reduce your running costs and you get 115 PS. It’ll be available with a manual or auto box.
Kia says a full hybrid powertrain will enter the fray later in 2026.

What interior features does the Kia K4 Sportswagon have?
While precise trim details are still to be confirmed, Kia says the K4 Sportswagon will boast a panoramic display (12.3-inch instrument cluster, a 5.3-inch climate display, and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen) supported by Kia’s Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC).
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across all trims, with a wireless phone charger available in higher trims.
Comfort is enhanced with optional heated and ventilated front seats wrapped in stylish, black bio-based artificial leather upholstery.
You can also upgrade to a Harman Kardon premium audio system.

What safety features do you get with the Kia K4 Sportswagon?
The Kia K4 Sportswagon will come with a full suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), as you’d expect of any Kia product.
That includes blind spot monitoring, collision avoidance, smart cruise control, semi-automated ‘Highway Driving Assist 2.0’, and a surround view camera.

Are estate cars making a comeback in the UK?
From where we’re standing, yes, estates might well be having a bit of a revival.
The market share of estate cars across Europe has declined in recent years as the body type continues to lose ground on SUVs.
Estate cars made up about 7.1 % of the European new-car market in 2025 - down from around 10.2 % back in 2020
But are we seeing signs of a comeback?
While the Volvo V90 is being killed off, the V60 lives on, with the Scandinavian having recently reinstated estates to its line-up having previously threatened to scrap them.
In recent weeks we’ve seen the plug-in hybrid BYD Seal 6 Touring join the leasing line-up, with BYD telling us that it’s the estate (rather than the saloon) they see as the most important model.
We should also see a clutch of new estates arriving in 2026, not least the swanky Zeekr 7GT and the incoming Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake.
