Is Bentley plotting a more off-road focused version of its posh Bentayga?
It really could be, judging by this ice-cold new Bentayga X Concept.
As Bentley points out, the Bentayga currently falls into two categories. You’ve got the Bentayga Speed, which is all about dynamic ability and pace, and you’ve got the Bentayga Extended Wheelbase, which brings luxury to corporate folk being ferried to important meetings.
But there could be a third way - one devoted to Range Rover-esque off-roading - and it’s previewed here with the Bentayga X.

What is the Bentley Bentayga X Concept?
The Bentayga X Concept is Bentley’s attempt to test the water before thinking about launching a full-on, go-anywhere version of its premium SUV.

The X is based on the Bentayga Speed, so it’s packing a 4.0-litre V8 engine developing power of 650 PS. The Speed also comes with all-wheel drive as standard as well as air suspension and the ‘Bentley Dynamic Ride’ 48V electric active anti-roll control system.
But the X Concept takes things up a notch.

It boasts 22-inch Brixton wheels, large off-road tyres, the track has been widened by 120mm for better stability, and the X sits 55mm higher to offer better ground clearance and more suspension travel.
The wheel arches are 40mm more pronounced and the X also has a wading depth of more than 550mm (and a ground clearance of just under 310 mm).
At the back you’ll find a titanium sports exhaust from Akrapovic.

Why is the Bentley Bentayga X Concept carrying a go-kart on the roof!?
Good question. The Bentayga X is seen here lugging a go-kart about in a bid to show off its roof-mounted cargo carrying abilities.
The kart itself is an electric Bambino-size Go Kart (as used in the FAT Karting League, which is an affordable pathway into a potential Formula 4 seat for young drivers).

Will Bentley build a production version of the Bentayga X Concept?
Bentley is clearly sold on the idea of turning the Bentayga X Concept into a reality.
The Crewe-based firm tells us that the X Concept ‘explores the potential of a more focused off-road Bentley’ and ‘has been developed to stimulate and gain feedback for an enhanced off-road capable Bentayga’.

It's worth pointing out that Lamborghini already offers a dedicated Off-Road Package for its Urus SUV, which raises the ground clearance, adds chunkier bumpers, and brings dedicated off-road drive modes.
