- New Tesla Model Y variant launched
- Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive added
- Gets 383-mile range
- Dialled-down styling and kit
- Priced from £44,990 - which is £3,000 more than base Model Y

Tesla has launched a new variant of the Model Y - a cheaper Long Range car that can travel 383 miles between charges.
Since Tesla facelifted the Model Y the line-up has enjoyed numerous rejigs.
Last year we welcomed a cheaper new entry-level car that jettisoned some of the Model Y’s styling - including the panoramic roof and full-width lightbar - to appeal to customers with slightly shallower pockets.

That base Rear-Wheel Drive car gets a 314-mile range.
This new Long Range Rear-wheel Drive Model Y costs £3,000 more, gets a larger battery for a 383-mile range, and also ups the top speed from 110 mph to 125 mph.
It sits as the second rung up the Tesla Model Y ladder, above the entry-level but behind the Premium Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive SUV, the latter of which can travel a bit further (with a range of up to 387 miles) between charges, is more visually impressive, and has more equipment.

What equipment and tech do you get with the new Tesla Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive?
The Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive Model Y looks the same as the base Rear-Wheel Drive car with the smaller battery and standard range.
So, you’ll have to do without the lightbar at the front, there’s no panoramic sunroof, and you’ll also have to forego the supplementary screen in the rear for passengers.
UK customers do, however, get 19-inch wheels while the rest of Europe has to make do with 18-inch rims.
You also still get goodies like heated front seats, heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging, a powered tailgate, and a massive 16-inch touchscreen.

What are the biggest rivals to the Tesla Model Y in 2026?
There's never been stiffer competition for the Tesla Model Y - and that's being reflected in falling UK sales figures for the Californian firm.
The Model Y still makes for an utterly compelling lease car. We reviewed it a few weeks back and there's plenty to recommend, not least its absolutely massive boot.
But there's no shortage of rivals, including many cars from China.

Some Tesla drivers might look to swap into cars like the Kia EV5, Xpeng G6 or cut-price Changan Deepal S07 while the new BMW iX3 and Volvo EX60 can both travel 500 miles between charges.
The Tesla Model Y also has to contend with long-standing foes like the Audi Q4 e-tron and Hyundai Ioniq 5.
