Alfa’s most extreme Quadrifoglio ever!

  • Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa revealed
  • Billed as ‘most extreme Quadrifoglio ever’
  • Inspired by the world of sailing
  • Carbon fibre body kit to reduce drag
  • Two tone exterior and alloys
  • Could cost a cool £250,000

Alfa Romeo has unveiled what it says is its ‘most extreme’ Quadrifoglio model ever - the absolutely stunning Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa.

Last year Alfa announced a new partnership with Luna Rossa, an Italian sailing team that famously competes in the prestigious America’s Cup.

And this, the Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa, is a limited edition creation designed to celebrate that partnership.

Just 10 examples will be built (all sold already…) with the Luna Rossa (it means ‘red moon’ in Italian) estimated to cost a whopping £250,000 (though precise costs haven’t been revealed).

Here’s everything you need to know.

What’s special about the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa?

Alfa Romeo has a long history of producing ‘Quadrifoglio’ cars.

The name means ‘four-leaf clover’ and it’s a badge attached to Alfa’s most potent cars, with a history going all the way back to the first Quadrifoglio (the RL Targa Florio racing car) in 1923.

You can currently get performance four-leaf clover versions of both the Giulia saloon and the Stelvio SUV.

And it’s the Giulia Quadrifoglio that’s been treated to this raucous Luna Rossa makeover.

What body kit does the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa have?

The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa features a carbon fibre body kit that aims to reduce drag.

It consists of eye-catching appendages on the front bumper, dedicated side skirts and what Alfa calls a ‘spectacular’ rear wing. It’s tough to argue with that.

The spoiler itself is designed to mimic the foils of the Luna Rossa AC75 racing yacht.

A spokesperson tells us: “While sailing foils lift the boat above water. Alfa Romeo has inverted this aerodynamic principle, transforming it into downforce that presses the car firmly onto the asphalt.”

It generates up to five times more downforce than the production version, ensuring stability at all speeds.

There’s two-tone contrasting colours everywhere you look, from the ‘boat deck’ bonnet to the red and black alloys, which look like they’re on fire.

Inside the cabin you get special Sparco seats and a dash that incorporates materials from Luna Rossa sails.

What engine does the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa have?

The powertrain is unchanged from the regular Giulia Quadrifoglio that you can lease with Select right now.

It’s a 2.9-litre, twin-turbo V6 producing 520hp and which drives the rear wheels - and is enough to accelerate the Giulia from 0-62mph in just 3.9 seconds (a shade slower than the BMW M3 Saloon).

You also get a mechanical self-locking differential that optimises torque transfer, which will help you launch into corners with trademark Italian gusto.
