- Ford Puma was most-registered new car in 2025
- Popular crossover triumphs three years running
- Beat the Kia Sportage to top spot
- Puma was NOT our most popular lease car
- Select’s No.1 lease car in 2025 was… the Jaecoo 7

The Ford Puma was the most-registered new car in the UK in 2025, industry stats have revealed.
The Puma - first launched in the UK back in 2020 - beat the Kia Sportage and Nissan Qashqai to the number one spot.
With 55,488 registrations, Ford’s unstoppable crossover also out-sold both the Tesla Model Y (24,298 registrations) and the Tesla Model 3 (21,188) combined.

Significantly, it’s also the THIRD year in a row that the Puma has topped the charts, according to data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
You have to go all the way back to 2022 to find another winner, when the Nissan Qashqai was the UK’s best-selling car - and even then the Ford Puma was still in fourth place.
It’s good to point out here that a ‘new car registrations’ refer to cars newly licensed for use in the UK - and covers everything from private buyers to business fleets and, crucially, lease cars.

While there’s a degree of similarity between the SMMT’s list of the most-registered new cars and our own list of the most LEASED cars of 2025, there are some key differences.
Select’s own most popular lease car of last year was… the Jaecoo 7, which has come from nowhere to dominate proceedings.
While there’s not a single electric car in the SMMT’s Top 10, our own list features two of them - the Tesla Model 3 and the Volkswagen ID.4. You can read our full run-down here.
