Genesis set to launch Magma GT supercar

  • Genesis Magma GT Concept revealed
  • Mid-rear engine layout
  • Likely 3.2-litre V8
  • Offers ‘effortless performance’
  • Genesis will also launch the performance GV60 Magma SUV

Genesis has thrown the sheets off its first supercar - the glorious Magma GT.

And, no, it’s not an EV.

While the Magma GT is a concept for now, Genesis says it has ‘plans to develop the model into a performance icon, or ‘halo car’, while also boasting about long-term ambitions to enter the GT racing class.

Up until now Genesis, the upmarket sub-brand of Hyundai, has specialised in luxury saloons and SUVs, most with a fully-electric powertrain.

But the Magma GT is set to buck that trend by having a mid-rear engine layout and the smart money suggests it’ll have a 3.2-litre V8 (like Ferraris of old) combined with hybrid tech.

Here’s everything we know so far.

What is the Genesis Magma GT Concept and how powerful is it?

Magma is the performance division of Genesis - a bit like AMG is to Mercedes. And it’s got some big ambitions as it attempts to become a true ‘disruptor’ in the market.

There’s already Genesis Magma Racing team, with the GMR-001 hypercar (unveiled in December 2024) acting as its figurehead.

And now the Magma GT Concept is set to enter the fray as both a road-legal production car and a track-devouring GT3 contender.

Other than it being mid-rear engined, we know little about the Magma GT. Genesis boasts how it’ll combine ‘refined luxury’ with ‘true motorsport character’.

Luc Donckerwolke, President and Chief Creative Officer of Genesis, adds, “The Magma GT Concept represents the pinnacle of our performance vision and stands as a symbol of our commitment to true motorsport capability. It isn’t defined by raw aggression or uncompromising speed - it is defined by balance. This is a car that feels instinctively connected to its driver, composed under pressure, and meticulously tuned so that every component serves a single purpose: to make performance effortless.”

There’s a low-slung bonnet, elongated roofline, wide rear fenders, and a ‘boat-tail’ cabin that tapers towards the rear.

The Genesis Magma GT Concept could make it to production by 2027, with power and performance figures still to be revealed.

What other Genesis Magma performance cars are planned?

Good question - because Genesis has also revealed a ‘Magma’ version of its existing GV60 electric SUV - seen here wearing the same fiery orange paint scheme as the GT Concept.

It’ll be introduced to European markets in 2026 and promises some serious levels of performance.

The bog-standard Genesis GV60 - which you can lease with Select - enjoys power of up to 390 PS, which is already enough to see it sprint from 0-62mph in 4.0 seconds flat.

The widened and lowered Genesis GV60 Magma ups the ante considerably, coming with 650 PS, 740 Nm of torque (with Boost Mode activated) and can hit 62mph from a standstill in 3.2 seconds in Launch Mode.

There are three drive modes - Sprint, GT, and the customisable MY. In MY Mode, drivers can customise settings for the electronic limited-slip differential (e-LSD), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and other performance parameters.

Like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, there’s a dedicated Drift mode which shifts the oomph to the rear wheels for some sideways fun.

Meanwhile a Virtual Gear Shift System (VGS) mimics the sound and feel of a traditional combustion engine for an ‘immersive and emotionally engaging driving experience’, says Genesis.

What are the interior features of the Genesis GV60 Magma?

The cabin is adorned with a suede-like material called ‘Chamude’, and it covers the seats, door trim and centre console.

As you’d probably expect, there’s lots of quilting and orange stitching, while the buttons, switches and emblems feature black high-gloss or dark metal finishes, minimising reflective glare.

Speaking of buttons, hit the ‘Magma Mode’ toggle and the instrument cluster switches to a three-circle layout with displays essential driving data like motor and battery temperatures, speed and G-force.

Additionally, the Head-Up display provides a simplified view of key information such as speed, regenerative braking levels and remaining boost time.

When it arrives in 2026, the Genesis GV60 Magma will compete with other rapid electric SUVs like the Porsche Macan Electric, Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, and the Tesla Model Y Performance.
