New petrol Fiat 500 will arrive in 2026

  • Fiat 500 Hybrid confirmed for UK relaunch
  • Will arrive second quarter 2026
  • Was previously axed in 2024
  • Powered by 1.0-litre petrol engine
  • Hatchback and convertible
  • Prices still TBC

Hurray for compact and affordable motoring - because the petrol-powered Fiat 500 is slated to make its comeback by the middle of 2026.

The traditionally-fuelled 500 was axed back in August 2024 as Fiat concentrated on the fully-electric 500e instead.

That stance has changed rather rapidly, however, based on feedback from European motorists.

Realising that there was still a gaping hole in the market for a pipsqueak city runabout with cool retro styling, Fiat is relaunching the 500 as a mild hybrid that borrows its exterior looks from its electric sibling.

As previously, the 500 Hybrid will be available as both a hatchback and convertible with a sliding fabric roof.

What engine does the Fiat 500 Hybrid have?

The latest Fiat 500 Hybrid will be powered by a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine that’s supported by mild hybrid tech and bolted to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Power of 65 hp means a top speed of 96 mph while 0-62mph will take place in a very leisurely 16.2 seconds.

As Fiat points out, the 500 Hybrid is a car for ‘efficient, urban motoring’, rather than anything resembling performance.

Don’t expect to burn anyone off in the traffic light grand prix.

What trim levels are available with the Fiat 500 Hybrid?

There’s a choice of three trims with the latest Fiat 500 Hybrid; Icon, La Prima and a Torino special edition.

Entry-level Icon models enjoy 16-inch alloys, twin-colour fabric seats, a body-coloured dashboard, 10.25-inch touchscreen, auto air con, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and rear parking sensors.

The La Prima grade adds larger 17-inch wheels, tinted glass, fixed glass roof (for the hatch), chrome door sill plates, eco-leather seats (heated in the front), uprated steering wheel, a rear camera, and sat nav.

The limited edition Torino, meanwhile, offers unique rims, fabric and vinyl seats with ‘Torino’ badging.

Leasing rivals to the updated Fiat 500 Hybrid will include the Hyundai i10, MINI hatchback, and Renault Clio.
