New Turbo S - most powerful Porsche 911 ever!

  • New Porsche 911 Turbo S revealed
  • Most powerful production 911 ever
  • Power of 711 PS thanks to T-Hybrid powertrain
  • Coupe and Cabriolet available
  • Priced from £199,100

Prepare to drool over the new Porsche 911 Turbo S, the most powerful 911 ever put into production.

The Turbo S models are available as either a Coupe or Cabriolet soft-top and sit at the very top of the 911 tree.

And the latest variants have upped the ante even further.

As Frank Moser, Vice President of the 911 and 718 model line, explains: “The 911 Turbo S is the most complete and versatile form of driving a Porsche 911. Whether in daily use, on long autobahn journeys or on the racetrack – we have made the new 911 Turbo S even more comfortable, more individual and significantly faster than its predecessor.”

Here’s a quick run-down:

New Porsche 911 Turbo S - performance and powertrain

The most recent Turbo S boasted 650 PS and 800 Nm of torque, courtesy of a 3.8-litre twin-turbo engine, and could accelerate from 0-62mph 2.7 seconds.

The new 911 Turbo S (the 992.2 model, to be precise), gets Porsche’s self-charging ‘T-Hybrid’ powertrain, which combines a 3.6-litre, 6-cylinder petrol engine with twin electric turbos.

The power has gone up to 711 PS, torque remains the same at 800 Nm, and the 911 Turbo S coupe can now throttle from 0-62mph in 2.5 seconds (shaving 0.2 of a second off the old time) while maxing out at 200mph.

The 911 Turbo S Cabriolet gets precisely the same powertrain but takes a shade longer to reach 62mph from a standstill, at 2.6 seconds.

All-wheel drive is a given, as is an 8-speed PDK transmission.

Despite integrating hybrid components, the new Turbo S adds only 85 kg in weight compared to the previous generation.

If you like your stats, the 911 with the most power before the arrival of this new Turbo S was the old GT2 RS (991.2), which developed 700 PS.

How quick is the new Porsche 911 Turbo S around the Nürburgring Nordschleife?

Germany’s infamous racetrack has long been a benchmark for performance.

And Porsche’s development driver Jörg Bergmeister clocked a lap time of 7:03.92 minutes around the ‘Green Hell’ - which is nearly 14 seconds faster than the outgoing model.

Advanced chassis tech helps in that respect. The electro-hydraulic Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (ehPDCC) comes standard, enhancing agility and stability in corners, while wider 325/30 ZR 21 rear tyres, paired with updated 255/35 ZR 20 fronts, provide stronger grip.

The braking system has also been upgraded. The Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake set-up now features larger 420 mm discs at the front and 410 mm at the rear - the biggest ever fitted to a two-door Porsche. New pads improve both stopping power and pedal feel under extreme loads.

Porsche 911 Turbo S - design and enhanced aero

The Coupe comes as standard with two seats while the Cabriolet gets the usual 2+2 Porsche 911 configuration.

You can, though, request to have rear seats in the Coupe, which comes at no extra cost.

On the outside, active cooling flaps, an adaptive front diffuser, and a revised rear wing work together to optimise airflow, reduce drag by 10 percent, and improve wet-weather braking.

Meanwhile a wider body, larger air intakes, titanium exhaust tips, and new rear fascia details, make the aggressive Turbo S stand out from other 911s in the stable.

What’s the price of the Porsche 911 Turbo S?

The Porsche 911 Turbo S Coupe begins at £199,100 while the 911 Turbo S Cabriolet is a shade more expensive at £209,100.

Both are drop-dead gorgeous.
