New Aston Martin DB12 S is a 690hp super tourer!

  • More aggressive than regular DB12
  • Available as coupe and open-top Volante
  • Priced from around £220,000

Aston Martin has revealed a new halo model of the DB range - the breathtaking DB12 S.

The Aston Martin DB12 was launched back in 2023 as the ‘World’s First Super Tourer’ and as a successor to the all-conquering DB11.

In regular form, the DB12 makes 680 PS, has a top speed of 202 mph, and can accelerate from 0-60mph in 3.6 seconds.

The new DB12 S - seen bathed in blued light here in these first-look pics - looks to up the ante in more ways than one.

Is the Aston Martin DB12 S more powerful than the regular DB12?

There’s a small boost in power, with an extra 20 PS taking the total output for the DB12 S to 700 PS, while Aston Martin has shaved 0.2 seconds off the sprint time, which is now down to 3.4 seconds.

While that might sound insignificant, every stat counts when you’re breathing the rarefied air of ultra-luxury motoring.

Power comes via a tweaked version of Aston Martin’s 4.0-Litre Twin-Turbo V8 engine, with 800Nm torque delivered between 3000 and 6000rpm.

What else is unique about the Aston Martin DB12 S?

There’s a quad tailpipe stainless steel sports exhaust system, which adds ‘depth and potency’ to the noise.

Aston Martin’s engineers have reduced the gearshift times by more than 50% while honing the throttle pedal calibration to give the driver ‘an even greater sense of connection and control’.

The chassis has also been uprated, with a stiffer rear anti-roll bar and software changes to the Bilstein DTX dampers, while the electronic rear differential (E-diff) has been dialled up.

An Aston Martin spokesperson tells us: “With the ability to use more throttle earlier in the corner for maximum satisfaction from corner entry to exit, DB12 S achieves an impeccable balance of agility and exploitability, together with an underlying stability for ultimate confidence and enjoyment.”

Carbon ceramic brakes shed weight while increasing stopping power.

DB12 S exterior look

And, of course, the ‘S’ model looks more aggressive than the regular DB12.

There’s a new front splitter, bonnet louvres, gloss black side sills, a fresh rear diffuser, and a fixed rear spoiler.

There are flourishes inside the cabin, too, including a red anodised finish to the knurled metal drive mode rotary controller.

What are the main rivals to the Aston Martin DB12 S?

The Aston Martin DB12 S - available as both a Coupe or drop-top Volante - costs around £220,000 before you start leafing through the options catalogue.

That puts it into the same class of luxury grand tourers like the Porsche 911 Turbo and Bentley Continental GT.

You’d also need to choose between the DB12 S and the 630hp, £208,000 Ferrari Amalfi (below), which was launched earlier this year - and which is easy on the eye, to say the least!
