VW T-Roc enjoys a growth spurt

  • New VW T-Roc
  • Second generation model revealed
  • Set for UK launch in November 2025
  • T-Roc is 12cm longer than previous model
  • Powerful T-Roc R remains
  • No mention of T-Roc Cabriolet

Volkswagen has debuted an all-new T-Roc - and the firm’s compact SUV has grown up.

The stylish T-Roc sits in VW’s range between the smaller T-Cross and larger Tiguan and was first launched back in 2017.

We’re now being treated to a second generation model, which VW says has been developed completely from scratch.

That clean sheet of paper has given VW the opportunity to make its distinctive crossover-coupe longer than before, with the T-Roc growing in length by 12cm.

And that’s good news when it comes to comfort, with increases in legroom coupled with the T-Roc’s boot expanding by 30 litres to 475 litres.

The car’s bigger bones has also given the firm’s designers the impetus to make the T-Roc more ‘dynamic’ in appearance than before, with its coupe-like silhouette more prominent than ever.

Interior tweaks see the dash panel upholstered in a soft new fabric while there’s uprated ambient lighting. The new T-Roc also adopts numerous features from the larger Tiguan and Tayron, including the ‘driving experience control’ rotary dial.

At launch, the T-Roc will be available with a choice of two petrol engines, both assisted by mild-hybrid tech, with power outputs of either 116 PS or 150 PS. Both will be mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

The mild hybrids will eventually be followed by two full hybrid drive systems that have been developed entirely from scratch.

Meanwhile an upgraded T-Roc R - a potent performance hot crossover - will also be unveiled in due course.

There is, however, no mention of the T-Roc Cabriolet, with VW having previously confirmed its quirky convertible would disappear from its line-up post 2025.

The new VW T-Roc will be available to lease in November. Price and spec still to be revealed so watch this space.

Leasing alternatives to the VW T-Roc will continue to be cars like the Ford Puma, Hyundai Kona, and the Kia Sportage.
