(Denza Z Coupe)
Feast your eyes on the new Denza Z - a ballistic new electric sports car that’s got the Porsche 911 firmly in its sights.
In case you’re not familiar, Denza is the premium sub-brand of China’s BYD.
We’ve already seen the Denza Z9 GT, an electric shooting brake with four doors and an estate-style rear end.
And now Denza has officially pulled the sheets off its flagship two-door Z, which is available as a Coupe, Spider convertible, and balls-to-the-wall Racing.

(Denza Z Racing)
All versions get a colossal 1,604 PS (yep, you read that right) and the Racing can hurtle from 0-62mph in just 1.96 seconds when you fit the optional semi-slick tyres while also being capable of hitting a top speed of 217 mph.
It’s an astonishing EV, then, but one that doesn’t come cheap.
The Coupe starts from £142,900, the Spider ups the price to £159,900 and the Racing can be yours from £172,900.

(Denza Z Spider)
That puts the all-wheel drive Denza Z into Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS territory while it’s similar money to the four-door Porsche Taycan Turbo and Turbo S.
You might also be glancing sideways at the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore.
Here’s everything you need to know

Is the Denza Z fully electric?
It sure is. At the heart of every Denza Z sits a new triple-motor electric powertrain producing 1,604 PS and 1,240 Nm of torque, delivering a 0-62mph time of 2.25 seconds in the standard Coupe and a top speed of 186mph.
Opt for the Racing model and performance increases further. Fitted with semi-slick tyres, Denza claims it can sprint to 62mph from a standstill in just 1.96 seconds before reaching 217 mph.

What’s more, Denza is also busy honing a Special Edition variant to tackle the Nürburgring Nordschleife later this year.
That Special Edition variant gets 2,000PS and can scorch from 0-62mph in 1.7 seconds, placing it firmly in electric hypercar territory.

Can the Denza Z Flash Charge?
Perhaps the Z's biggest headline feature isn't its acceleration, but its charging skills.
Using BYD's new Flash Charging technology, Denza claims the Z can recharge from 10% to 70% in five minutes, or 10% to 97% in just nine minutes when connected to a compatible 1,500 kW charger.

Even in temperatures as low as -30°C, the company says the battery can charge from 20% to 97% in around 12 minutes.
The system is paired with BYD's latest 76 kWh second-generation Blade Battery, delivering WLTP ranges of up to 254 miles, depending on the model.

Denza Z - built for the track
The Denza Z sits on the brand's new e3 Sports Car Platform, featuring three electric motors, torque vectoring, Cell-to-Body battery construction and DiSus-M magnetorheological suspension.
You get a boost mode, launch control, drift mode, configurable torque distribution, carbon-ceramic brakes and a dedicated Track app that records lap times, G-forces and performance data.
The car even includes a 'compass turn' function, allowing it to use its front wheels as an axis and revolve its rear wheels around it.

Is the Denza Z a four-seater?
It is, but you might choose to use those rear seats sparingly as they don’t exactly offer lots of legroom for passengers.
You get a fairly decent 250-litre boot, which expands to 550 litres with the rear seats folded.
With the Denza Z Racing, you can jettison the rear seats entirely and replace them with a roll cage.

Creature comforts include a 12.8-inch touchscreen with Google built in, heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, and wireless phone charging.
Order books for the Denza Z open late summer 2026 with first customer deliveries slated for the end of the year.
