- Volkswagen ID. Polo - the full reveal
- Exterior had been disguised up until now
- Two battery sizes, range of up to 282 miles
- Fun all-rounder built for everyday use
- UK price still TBC

Here it is - the VW ID. Polo, seen in full for the very first time.
Up until now, we’ve only glimpsed the incoming ID. Polo wearing a disguised exterior.
But the sheets are officially off, and the ID. Polo is now accelerating towards a proper UK launch in the coming weeks.
It wears a polished ‘Pure Positive’ design language while VW has tried its hardest to make the cabin feel as homely as possible, with big physical buttons and a 13-inch tablet-style touchscreen.
Here’s everything you need to know.

What sort of driver is the VW ID. Polo aimed at?
Fun, everyday practicality is the name of the game for the VW ID. Polo.
It’s got a roomier interior than the petrol-powered Polo, with an extra 19mm of interior space, while you also get a bigger boot than the fossil-fuelled Polo, at 435 litres.

As VW points out, the ID. Polo brings a Volkswagen’s best-seller and thrusts it into the electric age.
Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand and Head of the Brand Group Core, said: “For decades, the Polo has been part of people’s everyday lives. With the ID. Polo, we are making electric mobility accessible to many more people: with clear and timeless design, intuitive operation, strong quality and technologies from higher segments. A genuine Volkswagen just like our customers expect from us.”

What electric range does the VW ID. Polo have?
There’s a choice of two batteries; a 37 kWh unit and larger 52 kWh pack.
They bring three power output levels - 116 PS, 135 PS and 211 PS - with all variants being front-wheel drive.
Rapid charging can restore the energy from 10-80% in 23-24 minutes, depending on which battery you choose.

You also get a range of up to 282 miles between charges for the bigger battery, or 204 miles for the smaller pack.
How does that compare against rivals?
The CUPRA Raval - sibling car to the VW ID. Polo - gets an almost identical range figure while the Renault 5 boasts a max 252-mile range and the Vauxhall Corsa Electric can journey up to 265 miles between trips to the plug.
So, the ID. Polo will be right up there at the top of the class when it comes to range when it officially arrives.

Does the VW ID. Polo have vehicle-to-load?
Yep, one of the cool things about the new VW ID. Polo is that vehicle-to-load comes as standard on all models.
In case you’re not already familiar, vehicle-to-load lets you use the car’s battery to power external devices, whether you’re charging e-bikes or plugging-in a coffee maker or portable fridge.
It’s made possible using a 230 V socket in the interior and - with a separate adapter - also via the mode 3 connection of the charging socket.

What’s the cabin of the VW ID. Polo like?
VW says the ID. Polo’s interior should make you ‘feel good’ and ‘at home on the road’.
There’s an abundance of physical buttons (manufacturers are clearly listening to the lack-of-buttons-and-knobs backlash from customers) while you also get a tablet-style 13-inch touchscreen, 10-inch driver display, and a whole bunch of safety systems fitted as standard.

What trims are available with the VW ID. Polo?
In Germany, where the ID. Polo is now available to order, there’s a choice of three trims; Trend, Life and Style.
We’ll have to wait and see if those trims are replicated here in the UK, with those details still to be confirmed.

For German motorists, Trend brings LED headlights, auto air con, and the 13-inch touchscreen.
Life adds extras like adaptive cruise control, rear-view camera and wireless phone charging.
The Style models boast IQ. Light LED Matrix headlights, illuminated ‘VW’ logos at the front and back, uprated seats and two-zone air con.

What does the VW ID. Polo cost in the UK?
UK prices are still to be confirmed but in Germany the ID. Polo starts at 24,995 euros - the equivalent of around £21,649.
If the ID. Polo really does cost less than £22,000 when it launches here, it’ll undercut key rivals like the Vauxhall Corsa Electric, Renault 5 E-Tech, and the Nissan Micra.
