Order books have opened for the new Mazda CX-5 - which comes with hybrid power and upgraded tech.

Here's everything you need to know about leasing one.

What is the new Mazda CX-5?

The third-generation Mazda CX-5 is on its way to UK showrooms this summer, with prices starting from £31,550 and rising to £40,950. Order books are already open, and the latest version of Mazda’s best-selling UK model arrives with updated tech, more space and a revised engine line-up.

More than five million CX-5s have been sold globally since the SUV first launched in 2012, with over 105,000 finding homes in the UK. This new iteration builds on that success while undercutting the entry price of the outgoing model — a notable move in a fiercely competitive SUV market.

Mazda CX-5: Price, trims and release date

Mazda will offer four trim levels: Prime-Line, Centre-Line, Exclusive-Line and Homura. Even at entry level, buyers get a generous standard specification, while higher trims add premium touches including a Bose sound system and panoramic sunroof.

The new CX-5 is now available to configure, with first customer deliveries expected in summer 2026.

Mazda CX-5: Engine and performance

Every version of the new CX-5 uses a 2.5-litre e-Skyactiv G petrol engine producing 141ps and 238Nm of torque, paired with 24V mild-hybrid technology. It replaces the previous 2.0-litre unit and is designed to offer improved responsiveness and smoother acceleration.

Front-wheel drive models reach 62mph from rest in 10.5 seconds, while all-wheel drive is available on higher trims. A six-speed automatic gearbox comes as standard across the range, and cylinder deactivation helps boost efficiency.

Mazda CX-5: Design and dimensions

Mazda has taken an evolutionary approach to the CX-5’s design. The SUV retains its familiar silhouette but is now longer, wider and taller, with a 115mm increase in wheelbase.

The result is a more planted stance on the road, along with improved interior space and practicality. Mazda says the design continues to follow its ‘Kodo: Soul of Motion’ philosophy, but with a sharper, more confident edge.

Mazda CX-5: Interior and technology

Inside, the CX-5 gets a significant technology upgrade. A new central display — measuring 12.9 inches or 15.6 inches on Homura models — brings smartphone-style functionality and, for the first time in a Mazda, Google built-in integration.

A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster is standard, while higher-spec models add a 12-speaker Bose audio system. The cabin layout has been simplified, with an emphasis on usability and a more premium feel.

Material quality has also been stepped up, with options including leather upholstery and suede-like finishes depending on trim.

Mazda CX-5: Practicality and comfort

The CX-5 has been reworked with family use in mind. Boot space has increased by 61 litres, rear doors open wider for easier access, and the rear bench now features a 40:20:40 split for added flexibility.

Higher-spec models feature a panoramic sunroof, while Homura versions add ambient lighting to enhance the cabin atmosphere. A redesigned centre console also adds extra storage.

Mazda CX-5: Driving and safety

Chassis and suspension updates aim to improve ride comfort and handling, while towing capacity has been increased to 2,000kg.

The SUV is equipped with an updated suite of driver assistance systems and has achieved a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, keeping it competitive with key rivals.
