Isuzu launches new D-Max diesel and EV pick-ups

  • Isuzu launches D-Max EV and refreshed D-Max diesel
  • New 2.2-litre engine for diesel pick-up
  • D-Max EV set to arrive in May 2026, diesel follows in July
  • EV gets 163-mile range and one-tonne payload
  • D-Max EV priced from £59,995, ex VAT

Isuzu has thrown the sheets off its new D-Max EV and updated D-Max diesel - with both models set to arrive in the coming weeks.

The pick-up siblings were officially unveiled at the Commercial Vehicle Show 2026 at the NEC in Birmingham and give buyers the choice of a traditional diesel workhorse or a fully electric pickup with genuine commercial capability.

The revised diesel model will arrive in UK dealerships from July, while the electric version is due to reach customers from May.

New 2.2-litre diesel for core D-Max range

The biggest change to the standard D-Max is the arrival of a new 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine, replacing the long-serving 1.9-litre unit.

It produces 163hp and 400Nm of torque, with a choice of a six-speed manual or a new eight-speed automatic gearbox. That extra torque should be the main benefit in day-to-day use, especially for towing and carrying heavier loads.

Importantly, the updated D-Max keeps the figures that matter most to working pick-up buyers, with payload from 1,010kg to 1,205kg depending on version, plus a full 3.5-tonne braked towing capacity.

The line-up continues to include Single Cab, Extended Cab and Double Cab versions, with trim levels ranging from Utility up to V-Cross. Styling changes are fairly light, including a revised grille, updated lighting details and an Urban Moss metallic paint finish, while higher-spec models gain a 360-degree camera system.

Prices for the diesel D-Max start from £33,495 before VAT.

D-Max EV brings full working credentials

Alongside it, Isuzu has also launched the new D-Max EV, which the brand says is the first fully electric pick-up in the UK to combine more than a one-tonne payload, 3.5-tonne towing capacity and permanent four-wheel drive.

Power comes from a 66.9kWh battery and dual-motor setup, delivering 203hp and 347Nm of torque. Official WLTP range is 163 miles, rising to 224 miles in city driving.

Maximum payload is 1,060kg, while the towing capacity matches the diesel at 3,500kg. Isuzu has also fitted a strengthened ladder chassis and a new rear suspension setup intended to improve ride quality without compromising working ability.

Off-road capability remains part of the package, too, with Rough Terrain Mode, 210mm of ground clearance, and 600mm wading depth.

The D-Max EV will be available in Extended Cab and Double Cab forms, with prices starting from £59,995 and rising to £62,495, excluding VAT.

Two routes for pick-up buyers

Taken together, the two launches give Isuzu a much broader pitch in the pick-up market.

For traditional users, the updated diesel D-Max sticks closely to the familiar formula, adding more torque and some useful equipment improvements without changing the core appeal. For buyers looking to go electric without giving up payload, towing or four-wheel drive, the D-Max EV offers something genuinely different.

That leaves Isuzu in the unusual position of offering both a conventional diesel pick-up and a fully electric alternative with near-matching commercial credentials — something no rival can currently claim.
