Chinese automotive giant BYD is bringing its premium sub-brand Denza to Europe, marking its debut with the Z9GT.
It's a high-performance shooting brake aimed squarely at the upper tier of the electric and hybrid vehicle market.
And it'll have its sights set on the Porsche Taycan - particularly the Sport Turismo estate variant of the German firm's rapid EV.
The Denza Z9GT will be available in both fully electric and plug-in hybrid forms, reflecting a dual-track approach designed to ease European drivers into electrification.

Denza Z9GT: Performance and powertrain
At the heart of the Z9GT lies Denza’s new 'e3' platform, purpose-built for high-end electrified vehicles.
The fully electric version produces an impressive 1,156 horsepower, sprinting from 0-62 mph in just 2.7 seconds and reaching a top speed of 167 mph. Its 122.49 kWh battery provides a WLTP range of up to 372 miles, placing it firmly among long-range EV rivals.

Alongside this, Denza is introducing a plug-in hybrid “Super Hybrid DM" variant. This combines three electric motors with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, delivering a total of 776 horsepower. It offers up to 126 miles of electric-only driving and a combined range of around 500 miles when factoring in both battery and fuel. The hybrid accelerates from 0–62 mph in 3.6 seconds, reinforcing its performance credentials.

Denza Z9GT: Charging and battery technology
A standout feature of the Z9GT is its ultra-fast “FLASH Charging” capability, supported by BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery. Under optimal conditions, the system can charge the battery from 10% to 70% in about 5 minutes, and up to 97% in just 9 minutes.
The updated Blade Battery also delivers a 5% improvement in energy density, while enhancing safety and durability. According to BYD, it has passed stringent stress tests - including nail penetration and high-temperature scenarios — without thermal runaway, fire, or smoke, an increasingly important benchmark for EV safety.

Denza Z9GT: Technology and driving dynamics
The e3 platform introduces a suite of advanced technologies, including a three-motor independent drive system, dual-motor rear-wheel steering, and integrated Vehicle Motion Control.
Together, these systems enhance agility, stability, and manoeuvrability despite the car’s size. Rear-wheel steering enables the Z9GT to execute tight turns comparable to much smaller vehicles.
Cell-to-body battery integration improves structural rigidity and safety, while also maximising interior space. The platform further supports air suspension with adjustable stiffness, allowing the car to strike a balance between comfort and high-speed handling.

Denza Z9GT: Interior and infotainment
Inside, the Z9GT leans heavily into luxury and technology. The cabin features premium materials, including fine leather and wood, complemented by a flat floor that enhances the space. A 17.3-inch central display forms the core of the infotainment system, supported by additional screens for the driver and the front passenger, as well as an augmented-reality head-up display.

A 20-speaker sound system developed with Devialet and enhanced by Dolby Atmos provides an immersive audio experience, positioning the vehicle as much as a luxury lounge as a performance machine. Features such as massage seats, multi-zone climate control, and advanced ambient lighting further elevate comfort.

Denza Z9GT: Design
Visually, the Z9GT adopts a sleek shooting brake silhouette. Designed under the direction of Wolfgang Egger, the exterior emphasises flowing lines and aerodynamic efficiency, with styling cues inspired by silk. The result is a distinctive presence intended to stand out in an increasingly crowded premium EV segment.

Denza Z9GT: Availability and market strategy
Denza plans to introduce the Z9GT across key European markets - including the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain - in the coming months. To attract early adopters, the company is offering incentives, including up to 18 months of complimentary fast charging.
With the Z9GT, Denza is making a clear statement: the next phase of competition in Europe’s luxury automotive market will be defined not only by electrification, but also by speed - both on the road and at the charging point.
