- Arrives in the UK spring 2027

Here’s your first proper look at the new BMW X5 - and the electric iX5 has been handed a colossal 525-mile range.
That distance figure will take the iX5 right to the top of the class when it comes to longest possible range between charges for an electric SUV.
You don’t have to go fully electric, either.

The new X5 will be available with diesel mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, too.
The most potent of which is the PHEV X5 M60e xDrive, which boasts power of 612 hp, 800 Nm of torque, and which can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 4.5 seconds.
Here’s everything you need to know.

What’s new for the latest BMW X5?
Now that the sheets are officially off (up until now we’d only glimpsed the X5 in disguised form) you can see the latest X5 is proudly wearing BMW’s fresh ‘Neue Klasse’ design language, as seen on the BMW iX3 and BMW i3.
BMW describes it as having a ‘powerful, monolithic’ appearance with an upright front end, illuminated vertical kidney grille, and new switchable ‘double-X’ icons for the daytime running lights.
There’s a gently sloping roofline, muscular wheel arches, and new taillights that extend across the width of the rear.

The cabin is all-new, with a wrap-around cockpit backlit with ambient lighting.
Standard-issue equipment includes a panoramic sunroof and sports seats with quilting.

All models are all-wheel drive and all get adaptive suspension as standard.
The M60e xDrive, however, gets adaptive two-axle air suspension with rear steering and an adjustable ride height as well as sportier exterior styling, complete with a rear spoiler, quad tailpipes and striking ‘X’ shaped yellow headlights.

What engines can I get with the new BMW X5?
The latest BMW X5 will launch in the UK with diesel mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and petrol powertrains.
BMW has, though, said a hydrogen model will be available in certain global markets - and it might become a niche vehicle for fleets here in the UK from 2028.
Let’s start with the electric X5 - the iX5 60 xDrive.

A mahoosive 141 kWh battery brings a class-leading range of up to 525 miles along with rapid 460 kW DC bidirectional charging skills.
It’s quick off the mark, too, with power of 578 hp and 805 Nm torque letting it glide from 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds.

The diesel mild hybrid is your ‘40d xDrive’ flavour. A 3.0-litre diesel engine with two-stage turbocharging is allied to a 48V system to produce 313 hp and 670 Nm torque for a 0-62mph time of 6.1 seconds.
It’s the slowest of the pack, then. But you will enjoy fuel consumption of up to 40.4 mpg, says BMW, which ain’t bad at all for a hulking all-wheel drive SUV.

You’ve then got a choice of two plug-in hybrids - the regular X5 50e xDrive and the flagship X5 M60e xDriven - both underpinned by a 3.0-litre petrol engine and 26.5 kWh battery.
The 50e gets an electric range of up to 63 miles between charges while the M60e makes do with 61 miles.
And it’s the M60e that’s the quickest of all the new X5s off the mark - 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds, shading the iX5 by 0.1 of a second.

When will the new BMW X5 be available to order?
The UK market launch for all-electric, diesel and plug-in hybrid BMW X5 models commences in spring 2027.
Pricing is still to be revealed.
BMW’s Dr. Joachim Post says the new X5 continues the success story for a mould-breaking car first launched back in 1999.

He tells us: “With its imposing presence and flawless symbiosis of comfort and driving pleasure, the BMW X5 became a global bestseller. And now the latest generation also benefits from the technologies in the Neue Klasse and the widest possible range of drive systems. As a result, I’m sure the new BMW X5 will set the benchmark in its class once again and write the next chapter in its success story.”
