New Toyota Hilux due in 2026 with Land Cruiser inspired design and tech upgrades

  • Diesel power will remain,

Toyota is preparing a major update for the Hilux pick-up, due to make its global debut later this year before arriving in UK showrooms in 2026.

The new model will keep the proven ladder-frame chassis and cab structure but introduces a bold new exterior, with squarer lines, slim LED headlights and a prominent grille inspired by the latest Land Cruiser SUV.

Leaked images and patent drawings have already shown much of the fresh look, which should give the Hilux a tougher, more modern stance on the road.

Inside, we expect a big step forward in comfort and technology.

Expect a 12-inch floating touchscreen set into a redesigned dashboard, a digital driver display on higher trims, and upgraded safety systems. The move to electric power steering also paves the way for more driver-assist features and easier low-speed manoeuvring.

Under the bonnet, Toyota is expected to drop the 2.4-litre diesel, leaving the familiar 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel as the main option. That engine will continue with its 48-volt mild-hybrid system, with its slightly improved efficiency and emissions. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will remain available, with four-wheel drive standard on UK models.

Looking ahead, Toyota is understood to be planning a plug-in hybrid version, likely arriving in 2026, followed by a fully electric Hilux later in the decade. For now, though, diesel power remains the focus for most customers.

The next Hilux range is also expected to drop the extended-cab variant, leaving single- and double-cab models only. Overall dimensions will increase slightly, by around 20–25mm in length and width, while the wheelbase stays the same.

As before, the UK line-up should run from the work-ready Active trim to the range-topping Invincible X, balancing fleet needs with lifestyle appeal.

The new Toyota Hilux is expected to be unveiled at the Thailand Motor Expo in November 2025, with first UK deliveries by mid-2026.
