Kia PV5 Chassis Cab arrives with electric flexibility

  • New Chassis Cab Kia PV5 launched
  • Revealed at Solutrans event in France
  • Should be available to lease shortly
  • Adds flexibility to the Kia PV5 Cargo range

Kia is expanding its upcoming electric van line-up with the new PV5 Chassis Cab, revealed at Solutrans 2025 and due to reach the UK shortly.

Sitting alongside the PV5 Cargo, the Chassis Cab is designed to give trades and small businesses a highly adaptable electric base vehicle that can take on a wide variety of conversions.

Although it’s less than five metres long, the PV5 Chassis Cab offers a payload of up to 1,005kg and can support bodies up to eight cubic metres in size when fitted with a High Box.

Kia worked directly with European converters during development, ensuring compatibility with popular body types including dropsides, tippers, box vans, refrigerated boxes, and bespoke commercial builds. This should give UK converters a straightforward starting point once customer orders begin.

Two battery options will be available. The first vehicles will use a 51.5kWh battery, with a larger 71.2kWh long-range version joining the range later. While range will depend on the final conversion and body shape, Kia quotes up to 185 miles for the standard battery and up to 258 miles for the long-range pack on comparable PV5 Cargo models. Rapid charging at up to 150kW allows the PV5 to charge from 10–80% in around 30 minutes, while 22kW AC charging will be offered for depot-based operations.

Inside, the PV5 Chassis Cab shares the same modern cabin layout as the rest of the PV5 range, including a large central touchscreen, connected services and practical storage for everyday use. Safety equipment is impressive for a chassis cab, with Smart Cruise Control 2, Lane Following Assist 2 and Intelligent Speed Limit Assist included as part of Kia’s latest ADAS suite.

As with Kia’s passenger vehicles, the PV5 Chassis Cab is backed by a seven-year, 100,000-mile warranty, with the battery covered separately for eight years. This will hold particular appeal for small businesses considering a long-term electric van for specialist conversions, where durability and predictable running costs matter.

Kia is also introducing its new Business Solutions Ecosystem alongside the PV5 range. This brings together public charging access, connected services and optional fleet-management tools, though these features will be more relevant to larger operators and multi-vehicle users than individual trades.

With strong payload capability, a compact footprint and a converter-friendly electric platform, the PV5 Chassis Cab gives Kia a unique foothold in the competitive market for electric specialist vans, although the market for a compact convertable van is relatively small in the UK.
