- MG GO! revealed
- Electric concept that reinterprets the MG ‘spirit’ for the modern age
- Previews future compact hatchback due in 2027
- Designed in London

MG has previewed a new electric concept that hopes to capture the charm of the iconic MGB GT - and it teases a proper production vehicle due in 2027.
Long before MG was Chinese-owned, the British sportscar manufacturer was winning admiring glances in the 1960s and 70s with its MGB GT, a fixed-roof coupe version of the MGB roadster.

It was styled by Italian design house Pininfarina, it was everyday-usable, and you could even get one with a whopping great 3.5-litre V8 engine borrowed from Rover.
And now MG is hoping to tap into the MGB GT’s enduring charm with this - the GO!

It could be a massive car for MG. While it’s currently classed as a concept, MG admits the GO! previews a ‘future compact hatchback due in 2027’.
It has also been created at the MG Design Centre in London, which again leans into the brand’s heritage.

Does the MG GO! really look anything like the old MGB GT?
While the MG GO! is a different beast entirely, you can see the influence of the MGB GT in that frog-eyed front end.
The GO! even has two brackets at the front that appear to ape the old bumper overriders on the MGB GT from the early 1970s.

It’s not just the MGB GT that the GO! pays homage to, though.
MG also cites the MG Metro Turbo and MG ZR and touchstones, the latter of which was mothballed in the mid-2000s and is now approaching ‘future classic’ status (well, the 160 variants with the 1.8-litre engine are, anyway!).

Is the MG GO! electric?
Yep, the GO! is fully electric and could rival sporty little hatches like the Renault 5, Alpine A290, CUPRA Raval and MINI John Cooper Works Electric when it eventually sees the light of day as a production model.

A spokesperson said: “As a compact B segment battery electric hatchback, the MG GO! explores a retro futuristic idea informed by some of MG's most youthful and expressive designs from the mid-20th century. MG’s distinctly British identity and spirit has been reinterpreted for a new generation with the MG GO! as a preview of a future compact hatchback due in 2027.”

Carl Gotham, Design Director of Advanced Design, London, added: “With MG GO!, we wanted to create something compact and contemporary, but also warm, expressive and immediately likeable, an embodiment of all that we admire about the MG brand. It is not about looking back for its own sake, but about capturing some of the clarity, charm and emotional appeal that have always made MG so distinctive, and reinterpreting that in a way that feels relevant today and crucially creating something with strong charisma.”

What about the MG Cyber Concept? What’s that all about?
Besides the MG GO! MG has also been teasing the Cyber Concept - a large electric SUV that, again, is set to make the jump from the drawing board to the road.

MG describes it as ‘high performance’ while being in the ‘D-Segment’, which could see it rubbing shoulders with illustrious rivals like the Lotus Eletre, Audi SQ6 e-tron, and the Polestar 3 Performance.
