Could the new Renault 4 electric van be heading to the UK?

  • New Renault 4 Van revealed
  • Commercial vehicle has rear seats replaced with flat floor
  • Payload of 375kg
  • Up to 254 miles between charges
  • UK launch still up in the air

The Renault 4 is back, but not quite as you remember it.

Renault has unveiled the Renault 4 E-Tech Van, a compact, all-electric commercial vehicle with retro-inspired looks and modern tech under the skin.

Orders have opened in France with prices starting from €29,300 before tax (around £25,400). Whether it comes to the UK is still undecided - so watch this space!

The original Renault 4 F4 van was a symbol of no-nonsense practicality, with space for tools and up to 300kg of payload. The new 4 Van follows that same spirit, but swaps petrol power for a quiet, emissions-free electric drivetrain.

Inside, the rear seats are gone, replaced by a flat load floor with tie-down hooks and a cargo stop system. There’s up to 940 litres of space and a 375kg payload, while a hidden underfloor compartment provides an extra cubby for cables. A mesh bulkhead can also be fitted to separate the cab from the load area, and Renault will offer extras such as a luggage cover or anti-slip mat, depending on the market.

Two versions are planned, with an entry-level model powered by a 90kW motor and a 40kWh battery good for 191 miles of range. Above that will sit a van with a 110kW motor powered by a 52kWh battery pack that’ll take the van up to 254 miles between charges.

Both get an 11kW AC charger for home or workplace charging, and DC fast-charging that takes the battery from 15–80% in about 30 minutes.

Each van is finished by Renault’s Qstomize division in northern France, which specialises in custom builds for business customers. That means the warranty and after-sales care are the same as any other Renault, despite the conversion.

Will the Renault 4 Van be launched in the UK?

If it reaches these shores, the 4 Van would go head-to-head with the Citroen e-C3 Van and arguably the Dacia Spring Cargo. In the Renault range, it would sit beneath the Kangoo E-Tech and its rivals like the Ford E-Transit Courier and Vauxhall Combo Electric, though its smaller payload makes it more of a niche option. Last-mile deliveries, urban couriers, or small service businesses would be an ideal match.

The mix of compact size, easy driving manners and retro styling should help it stand out, but with limited cargo space, it won’t suit everyone.

Renault UK is currently reviewing demand, and we’ll know later this year whether the 4 Van will get the green light for Britain.
