Ineos Grenadier Commercial - the perfect pick-up alternative?

The Ineos Grenadier Commercial is on special offer with Select Van Leasing right now, with prices starting from £432.17 pm, ex VAT*.

And if you demand a rugged car-derived van with G Wagon style and the ability to devour mud-drenched fields and tracks, look no further.

Here’s everything you need to know.

What is the Ineos Grenadier Commercial?

The Ineos Grenadier Commercial is a car-derived van based on the regular Ineos Grenadier SUV. It looks a lot like the old Land Rover Defender because Ineos' billionaire owner Jim Ratcliffe is a massive Defender enthusiast.

Unlike the Grenadier SUV, the Commercial model has got just two seats, with the rear bench jettisoned and replaced with a van-like cargo space.

There’s a flat floor with a 2,000 litres of loadspace - enough to accommodate a standard 1,200mm x 800mm Euro pallet.

You can also enjoy a payload of 871kg for the petrol model and 796kg for the diesel (more on the powertrains below). And the max braked towing capacity is 3,500kg.

Who is the Ineos Grenadier Commercial aimed at? A brilliant Ineos advert showing three sheep clambering out of the back of a Grenadier in the depths of an icy winter gives you some idea at who this car is best suited to.

It’s a completely no-nonsense, bulletproof vehicle that’s built to get the job done.

Is the Ineos Grenadier Commercial good off-road?

The Ineos Grenadier Commercial is exceptionally good off-road, which is why it could be the perfect alternative to a 4x4 pick-up.

All models are all-wheel drive.

It comes equipped with heavy duty coil spring suspension, a two-speed transfer case, centre diff lock, and a recirculating-ball hydraulic steering box (as opposed to a traditional rack-and-pinion steering set up).

That hydraulic system is unique and favoured for soaking up the tough stuff, in that it absorbs the punishment of hitting bumps and rocks without transferring the shock to your hands.

What’s the interior of the Ineos Grenadier Commercial like?

There’s a motto at Ineos that says, ‘Function first, always’. And that’s what you can expect with the Grenadier Commercial.

Immediately obvious are the umpteen rows of physical toggles and switches that make it look like you’ve just stepped into the cockpit of a jumbo jet. The thinking here is that they’re easy to operate, even if you’re wearing gloves or it’s so cold outside that you can’t feel your fingertips.

There’s an abundance of storage space and cubby holes, the cargo floor has drain valves, and the interior is water-resistant.

In short, it’s designed for work but isn’t without luxury.

You still get, for example, a 12.3-inch LCD colour touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, off-road sat nav, Recaro seats and Nappa leather upholstery.

Ineos Grenadier Commercial - engine and powertrain options?

The Ineos Grenadier is available with either a 3.0-litre petrol engine or 3.0-litre diesel mill.

Both are sourced from BMW and mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with manual override.

The petrol is the more powerful of the two (286 PS compared with 249 PS for the diesel) but the diesel has more torque (550 Nm compared with 450 Nm for the petrol). The diesel also offers better fuel economy at up to 25.9 mpg.

Our latest offer is for the diesel Ineos Grenadier Commercial.

Ineos Grenadier Commercial car-derived van vs pick-up

If you’re a business owner, you’re no doubt aware that double-cab pick-ups have been reclassified as ‘cars’ rather than commercial vehicles for the purposes of tax.

That means higher Benefit in Kind (BIK) bills, reduced capital allowances, and increased costs.

The Ineos Grenadier Commercial, however, is strictly a ‘commercial’ vehicle in the eyes of the taxman, being a car-derived van.

There are aluminium panels at the back instead of windows and the rear doors get blacked-out glazing.

Ineos says the Grenadier Commercial is ‘HMRC compliant as a commercial vehicle, rather than a passenger vehicle’ and promises a ‘load off your mind’ when leasing one for your business.

So, if you love pick-ups for their versatility and capabilities off-road, but you want to pay less dosh to HMRC, the Ineos Grenadier Commercial is well worth a look.

*Prices exclude VAT. Credit is Subject to Status, Ts and Cs and Arrangement Fees apply. Excess mileage may apply. Stock levels and prices correct as of 05/09/25.
