Electric RS e-tron GT Performance is most powerful Audi ever

Brace yourself for the new RS e-tron GT Performance - the most powerful production car that Audi has ever built.

With an output of 925 PS, the RS e-tron GT Performance will be capable of accelerating from 0-62 mph in just 2.5 seconds.

That makes it officially quicker than a lot of fully-fledged supercars and it’ll offer some seriously stiff competition to the ballistic Porsche Taycan Turbo S, the latter of which boasts 952 PS and can cover 0-62mph in 2.4 seconds.

Prices for the GT Performance will begin at £143,780 to buy outright, which is similar money to the Taycan Turbo S but also slightly cheaper.

Besides this GT Performance model, the entire e-tron GT line-up has been revamped, with new exterior styling, sharpened suspension, and better electric charging capabilities.

When order books open in August you’ll be able to lease the e-tron GT in three distinct flavours - the Audi S e-tron GT, the Audi RS e-tron GT, and the Audi RS e-tron GT Performance. Each enjoys all-wheel drive and would get envious eyeballing from the neighbours.

The Audi S e‑tron GT (above) has been built with ‘elegant sportiness’ in mind, says Audi, with a 3D front grille and more aggressive air curtains at the front. Here a 97 kWh battery provides power of 680 PS (with launch control) as well as a 0-62 mph time of 3.4 seconds. Rapid 320 kW DC charging can also take the battery from 10-80% in 18 minutes, and that goes for all of the new e-tron GT models.

The new-look Audi RS e-tron GT (above) is now sportier, with a lower stance and motorsports-inspired rear end. The power goes up to a max of 857 PS while it’s also capable of throttling from 0-62 mph in 2.8 seconds.

Audi’s full-fat RS e-tron GT Performance, meanwhile, gets a matte, darkened carbon roof in combination with optional carbon camouflage elements.

With all of Audi’s e-tron GT models, the cabin has been revamped to include redesigned seats, a flattened steering wheel, new entry sills, and fresh digital content. The RS models feature swathes of Dinamica upholstery while there’s plenty of recycled materials.

Audi has made some clever technical tweaks to the 97 kWh battery that underpins all three e-tron GT models. The weight of the battery unit has been reduced by 9 kg while also increasing its energy density, improving efficiency. Regenerative braking has also increased from 290 to 400 kW, with the driver able to choose the setting via the paddles on the steering wheel.

All of this means that even the rip-roaring GT Performance model gets a range of up to 365 miles between charges.

When it comes to handling, all of the e-tron models enjoy newly-developed active air suspension which seeks to find the perfect balance between thrills and comfort.

An Audi spokesperson explains: “The suspension keeps the car’s body nearly horizontal during dynamic braking, steering, and acceleration. This results in a highly precise steering response, increasing the driver’s control of the car during dynamic driving. In these driving situations, the active suspension ensures near-perfect road grip with its balanced distribution of wheel loads.”

There’s a ‘comfort entry’ feature which raises the ride height so you don’t have to strain your back while getting into it. Meanwhile all-wheel steering increases low speed manoeuvrability and high-speed stability.

Gernot Döllner, Chairman of the Board of Management at Audi, says: “With the e-tron GT models, we are setting new standards in performance. The increased charging power and electric all-wheel drive ensure improved long-distance capability and considerably more performance. The newly developed chassis offers an unprecedented range between driving comfort, ride comfort, and driving dynamics.”
