New Charger and Challenger: the ultimate muscle cars?

Souped-up new versions of the iconic Dodge Charger and Challenger have been unveiled - and you should feast your eyes on these muscle cars while you still can!

American manufacturer Dodge is preparing to drop both the Charger and the Challenger from its line-up in the coming months, as it ushers-in a new electric Charger Daytona SRT instead.

It’s truly the end of an era - with the V8 tyre-shredders having appeared in countless Hollywood flicks, including the likes of Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof and, of course, TV’s The Dukes of Hazzard.

And now Hennessey - the Texas-based hypercar manufacturer and tuner that has a knack for ‘making fast cars faster’ - has taken the 6.2-litre ‘Hellcat’ HEMI V8-engined Challenger and Charger and put their own subtle twist on it to launch new ‘Last Stand’ models.

In case you’re not au fait, the Charger is a four-door saloon, while the Challenger is the full-blown coupe with those bulging rear haunches.

In standard form, the Charger and the Challenger put out a maximum of 807 hp.

But now that Hennessey has got its mitts on them - fitting the engine with a larger supercharger, upgraded fuel injectors, a high-flow induction system, pulley upgrade, stainless-steel long tube headers, high-flow catalytic converters, and a crankcase ventilation system - they’re chucking-out 1,000 hp and a staggering 1,285 Nm of torque.

That's only 25 horsepower shy of Dodge's flagship SRT Demon 170. And the Hennessey upgrades enable both models to sprint to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds.

The Hennessey H1000 'Last Stand' editions also get a style boost compared with the regular Dodges. You can expect an abundance of carbon fibre, a new rear spoiler, front splitter, side skirts, and rear diffuser, as well as tasty 20-inch alloys.

John Hennessey, company founder and CEO: "The Challenger and Charger are two of our most popular models, with monstrous horsepower in a comfortable and capable chassis. While it's sad to see the 6.2-liter HEMI go, I'm pleased to commemorate its near-decade run with our unique 'Last Stand' models that pair the 1,000-horsepower output with the sleek look of carbon fibre and other exterior performance upfits."

Expect to pay around £100,000 for a ‘Last Stand’, once you’ve supplied a donor car and paid for the upgrades.

While you can’t lease a Dodge Charger or Challenger with Select, you can get behind the wheel of one thanks to our friends at Krazy Horse - who we supported earlier this year with their sensational summer festival.

Krazy Horse, headquartered in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk is an authorised Dodge dealership with Challengers and Chargers available.

And if you are in the market for a muscle car lease, you should look no further than the raucous Ford Mustang.

You can lease a 5.0-litre V8, 450 hp Ford Mustang with Select Car Leasing from £701 per month*.

Sam Spencer, handled my order from start to finish and customer service and communication was excellent. I am an awkward customer but Sam never changed and was great throughout the whole process, cant recommend highly enough.
