Ferrari unveils new 12Cilindri super GT

In the market for an uber-exclusive GT that’s built ‘for the few’ who can afford it? You need to check out the astonishing new Ferrari 12Cilindri.

It’s up for grabs as either a two-seat coupe or a two-seat Spider hard-top convertible, depending on how you like to cross continents.

As you might be able to gather, the 12Cilindri is powered by a whacking-great V12 engine chucking out power of 830 PS.

There’s no hybrid wizardry going on here, unlike you get with the plug-in hybrid Ferrari SF90 Stradale, and it’s a naturally-aspirated unit that some might consider old skool.

But what you can’t do is knock the performance stats.

The coupe variant will launch from 0-62 mph in just 2.9 seconds while the first 124 mph takes place in less than 7.9 seconds.

And Ferrari says 12Cilindri is the ‘perfect embodiment of the Prancing Horse DNA, offering incomparable performance and handling with sophisticated, sculptural design’.

It’s a car that’s aimed at ‘connoisseurs of the iconic V12 engine’, while the design has been inspired by grand tourers from the 1950s and 60s. The 12Cilindri also has a fair bit in common with the Ferrari 812 Competizione, which too is packing a 6.5-litre V12 with power of 830 PS and comes with independent four-wheel steering.

Yet, despite all of that performance, Ferrari says the 12Cilindri is about comfort, too, arriving with a sumptuous cabin that even has an 8.8-inch screen for the passenger.

A Ferrari spokesperson tells us: “The Ferrari 12Cilindri is aimed at driving enthusiasts, but also at those who demand new standards of performance, comfort and design: long-standing Ferraristi, loyal to the unique emotions that only the Ferrari V12 can deliver, as well as new clients dreaming of combining comfort and Italian design with exhilarating driving pleasure. The Ferrari 12Cilindri is designed for connoisseurs with a very clear vision of what Ferrari’s DNA has always been, truly making it a car for the few.”

Driving pleasure has been enhanced by something Ferrari calls ‘Aspirated Torque Shaping’ (ATS), which has allowed Maranello’s engineers to sculpt the torque curve in third and fourth gears using sophisticated electronic control that improves perception of the torque without impinging on acceleration.

Even the geometry of the ‘forms and curves’ of the exhaust system have been honed to offer the ‘very purest notes of the signature Ferrari sound all the way to the limiter’.

All in all, then, it’s a worthy competitor to equally lusted-after supercars like the Aston Martin DB12 and the Lamborghini Revuelto.

Prices begin at £330,000 for the coupe and £372,000 for the convertible. So, if money were no object, which one are you going for?
