New Mercedes-AMG GT2 Pro is ‘pinnacle’ track day car

Track days don’t get much more enticing than this - the new 750 hp Mercedes-AMG GT2 Pro.

Unlike the similar-looking Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe, the GT2 Pro is NOT a car that you can take on the road.

It’s built strictly for the circuit only, and is based on the Mercedes-AMG GT2 racer that was launched in 2022 as ‘AMG's most powerful ever customer race car’.

The GT2 has equipped itself well for AMG in the GT2 European Series - a series of events aimed at amateur ’gentleman drivers’.

But the GT2 Pro dials things up a notice - with Mercedes-AMG describing it as the ‘pinnacle of AMG’s customer sports portfolio’.

Like the GT2, the Pro is powered by a 4.0 litre V8 biturbo engine that produces 707 hp, most of the time.

Punch a ‘Push2Pass’ button on the steering wheel, however, and the power surges to 750 hp for a short amount of time so that you can successfully overtake opponents.

You can also expect a clonking-great rear wing to increase downforce, as well as a transmission that features a high-torsion carbon fibre torque tube, and adjustable four-way motorsport shock absorbers.

The cockpit is enclosed in a carbon safety cell, rigidly connected with the chassis, and also features a five-point safety belt, safety nets, a fire extinguisher, and an extrication hatch.

Christoph Sagemüller, head of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport, says: “We are very proud to have achieved the next milestone in the customer sports segment with the Mercedes-AMG GT2 PRO. Demand for pure track day cars has increased significantly, so therefore, we also respond to the expansion of the derivatisation in the track day and club sport segment at the same time. With its technical refinements that include, among others, the new Push2Pass function, the GT2 PRO is the ultimate track day tool. Moreover, the car is easy and quick to drive. The GT2 PRO is exceptionally agile, allowing the fascination of racing to be experienced enormously, both for amateurs and professionals.”

The Mercedes-AMG GT2 Pro will set amateur racers back around £420,000.

Meanwhile it’s worth remembering that you may struggle to lease a regular Mercedes-Benz (whether a track day car or otherwise!) as the manufacturer has moved away from traditional leasing channels.

BUT you can still lease a used, nearly-new Mercedes-Benz with Select Car Leasing - with prices for the popular A-Class beginning at just over £200*.

Sam Spencer, handled my order from start to finish and customer service and communication was excellent. I am an awkward customer but Sam never changed and was great throughout the whole process, cant recommend highly enough.
