Bentley Bentayga turns to the ‘dark side’

This is the Bentayga S Black Edition - Bentley’s ‘most visually striking SUV to date’.

The head-turning Bentayga, first launched in 2015, is available in a number of different flavours, with the ‘S’ model offering ‘enhanced performance’ compared with its other luxurious siblings.

Here, the ‘S Black Edition’ turns the dial up to 11, with ‘vivid accent colours, rich black detailing and confidence-inspiring chassis technology’ revealing the ‘darker side of the Bentayga’.

Power remains the same as with the regular Bentayga S - with a stonking great 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 developing 550 PS and 770 Nm of torque. That’s enough to propel the heavy SUV from 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds and then on to a top speed of 180mph.

If you’d prefer, you can also have a 463 PS hybrid powertrain instead, with less shove.

The exterior has been honed to look mean and moody. There’s a laser-like stripe on the body kit below the front bumper and side sills and across the top of the rear spoiler, while the brake calipers are painted to match.

You can also expect black 22-inch alloys as well gloss black Bentley Wings - the first time the British firm’s emblem has gone noir in its 105-year history.

The interior follows a similar theme, with flourishes of colour interspersed with rich Beluga leather, an abundance of dark chrome, and with each seat embroidered with a black ‘S’ emblem.

Electronic all-wheel steering is standard fit for optimum manoeuvrability (at low speeds) and handling (at higher speeds). Bentley’s ‘Dynamic Ride’ system is also fitted as standard, and which stops you getting bent out of shape in the twisties by counteracting lateral rolling forces.

Hitting the ‘Sport’ button sharpens the suspension further, while the ‘Torque Vectoring by Brake system’ applies a dab of the anchors to the inside rear wheel when cornering so that you get a better front axle turn-in.

So, you’d happily cross continents in a Bentayga S Black Edition - and Bentley reckons it’s a dab hand off-road, too, coming with an optional All-Terrain Specification bringing four dedicated off-road modes (Snow and Wet Grass, Dirt and Gravel, Mud and Trail, and Sand) along with a 500 mm wading depth.

All of this will set you back an estimated £200,000, as a starting point.
