Rugged new Audi A6 Allroad is the ultimate all-rounder

  • New Audi A6 Allroad revealed
  • Brought back after being taken off sale in 2022
  • Adaptive air suspension with variable ground clearance
  • Quattro all-wheel drive
  • All-wheel steering option
  • Plug-in hybrid and diesel engines
  • UK launch expected in 2027

Audi is bringing back its much-loved Audi A6 Allroad after a four year hiatus.

And with a wide body stance, go-anywhere capabilities, a practical estate boot, and the ability to turn heads on the school run, it could be the ultimate do-it-all lease car.

It’s expected to arrive in the UK in 2027, with full specs to follow.

But here’s everything we know so far.

What is the Audi A6 Allroad?

The Audi A6 Allroad was first launched in the UK back in 2000.

And the recipe was simple; take the regular Audi A6 Avant, add increased ground clearance with a sprinkling of air suspension, stir in dollops of protective cladding, and garnish with Quattro all-wheel drive.

What you’re left with is a raised estate that takes the fight to cars like the Subaru Outback and the (now discontinued) Volvo V90 Cross Country while also raising the stakes when it comes to style.

The A6 Allroad has enjoyed various generations here in the UK, the last coming in 2019 before sales were stopped in 2022 (Audi doesn’t sell huge numbers of them).

So, it’s a niche car but an extremely attractive one. And it could tempt you away from leasing a higher-riding SUV, including off-roaders like the Land Rover Defender

Why should you lease an Audi A6 Allroad?

The first thing that grabs your attention is the way the A6 Allroad looks. It’s fair to say it’s a bit of a showstopper.

There’s a wide body for the first time (111m wider than the standard A6 Avant), bulkier front bumpers, black cladding to repel churned up gravel, and underbody protection for when you stray from the beaten path.

There are also nods to the performance Audi RS 5 Avant, with large air outlets behind the front wheels to reduce lift and which emphasise the Allroad’s aggressive looks.

Quattro all-wheel drive is a given, as is adaptive air suspension.

The standard suspension setup provides 55mm of ride-height adjustment and sits 34mm higher than a regular A6 Avant.

Dedicated off-road and off-road+ driving modes can raise the car even further when tackling rough tracks, gravel roads, snow or muddy terrain.

Audi has also improved the chassis with revised steering and optional all-wheel steering technology.

What engines are available with the Audi A6 Allroad?

A 3.0-litre V6 diesel mild hybrid produces 299 PS and 580 Nm torque and can scramble from 0-62mph in 5.4 seconds.

That’s more powerful than the diesel V6 offered with the Audi Q7, and it’ll get you down the road quicker, too.

Your other engine option is a plug-in hybrid.

Here a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine combines with an electric motor to develop 367 PS and 500 Nm of torque.

Performance is brisk, with a 0-62mph time of 5.5 seconds, while a 25.9 kWh battery enables up to 59 miles of electric-only driving under WLTP testing.

How practical is the Audi A6 Allroad?

In a word, very.

The diesel model offers between 466 and 1,497 litres of luggage space, while the hybrid sacrifices some capacity to accommodate its battery, providing between 404 and 1,423 litres.

Owners can also tow up to 2,500kg with the V6 diesel - 400kg more than the standard A6 Avant - making it an attractive proposition for caravan owners, horse riders and outdoor enthusiasts.

Inside, the cabin mirrors the latest A6 range and features Audi's newest digital technology. A curved panoramic display combines an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster with a 14.5-inch central touchscreen, while buyers can also specify a separate 10.9-inch passenger display.

So, hurrah for the estate - they ain’t dead yet.

And we’ll bring you further details when we get them.
