- Expected to arrive in 2027

Here’s your first look at BMW’s incoming electric M3 - seen here in full for the very first time ahead of a proper launch in 2027.
While BMW is referring to its monumental car as the ‘M Concept Neue Klasse’, what you’re looking at is, essentially, the first ever electric M3.
It was unveiled at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and is proudly showcased here alongside the original BMW M3 from the late 1980s.

That juxtaposition is important, as the M Concept Neue Klasse carries over some of the design cues from that iconic car, not least those stonking flared fenders, and helps ‘builds a bridge between its history and motorsport’, says BMW.
Those yellow headlights are here to stay, too, and aren’t just a flourish slapped on a concept.

We still don’t know how powerful the M Concept Neue Klasse is, with BMW keeping those stats under wraps, but you can expect it to go like a scalded cat.
Here’s everything we know so far.

Does the design of the new M Concept Neue Klasse hark back to BMWs of old?
It does indeed.
While the incoming electric M3 catapults BMW into the future, the German firm has rooted its vehicle in the past - which has gone down well with purists (while still polarising a small minority).
Overall, there’s a clean, minimalist yet muscular feel (particularly at the rear) while the oversized kidney grille of recent BMWs has been jettisoned entirely.

As you can see from these snaps, the touchstone for BMW appears to be the original M3 (E30) from the late 80s and early 90s.
There are wide wheel arches, a muscular shoulder section, and V-shaped bonnet with eye-catching air ducts.

The shark nose front sees the headlights and kidney grille forming a single unit while the ‘M Yellow Lights’ are a ‘signature feature’, not just of this car, but of ‘future BMW M automobiles’ in general, says the manufacturer.
There are distinctive square track lights at the front and rear while a ducktail spoiler at the back is perhaps one of the car’s biggest talking points.

What’s the interior of the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse look like?
A driver-focused cabin gets bucket seats, Merino leather upholstery, and a five-point harness.
The steering wheel is clad in nubuck leather while the floating dashboard is finished in a black knit material and enjoys hexagonal backlighting.

How powerful is the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse?
We don’t yet know how powerful - or fast - the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse is.
What we do know is that it’s underpinned by a battery that weighs in at ‘more than 100 kWh’ while four electric motors provide all-wheel drive.

BMW tells us: “Thanks to the integrated, wheel-specific control of the drivetrain and braking systems, BMW M eDrive opens up new potential for driving dynamics and driving safety. It enables high recuperation performance, optimal traction right up to the limit and particularly direct response.”
While unconfirmed, expect power of around 1,000hp and the sort of pace enjoyed by the Porsche Taycan Turbo and Turbo S.
