- New Alpine A290 Rallye revealed
- Competition take on the Alpine A290 hot hatch
- Not road legal - designed for track use
- Gets the same 220 hp and 300 Nm as regular A290
- Priced from €59,990
French manufacturer Alpine has taken its A290 hot hatch and turned it into an extreme track-only competition car.
It’s called the A290 Rallye, it’s not road legal, there are Sabelt bucket seats and a roll cage, and it could be the perfect EV for adrenaline-inducing track days.
It’s Alpine’s first ever 100% electric competition car, coming with a ZF limited slip diff, upgraded running gear and suspension and - of course - a hydraulic handbrake for when you want to go sideways.
Power output is a healthy if not earth-shattering 220 hp and 200 Nm of torque - which is the same as you get with the range-topping, road-legal A290.
Front braking comes via 6-piston monoblock callipers and 350mm discs. At the rear, single-piston callipers work on 280mm discs, all with Alpine Racing's specific race-type ABS control.
You’ll get a specific suspension system fitted with ALP Racing Suspension shock absorbers Michelin Pilot Sport A tyres.
The Alpine A290 Rallye also generates its own noise - which is beamed to both the driver and those outside the car - which ‘correlates with the vehicle's speed and throttle position’.
Customers who get their mitts on one will be able to enter a single-rally challenge to be organised in France later this year.
Or you can just use it for ragging around your local circuit.
The Alpine A290 Rallye is priced from €59,990, excluding VAT, for the complete, assembled, and painted car.
