Pet friendly new Jaecoo E5 is a treat for dogs!

  • Jaecoo E5 makes its debut
  • Compact electric SUV to rival Kia EV3 and Ford Puma Gen-E
  • ‘Pet Mode’ will appeal to dog lovers
  • Billed as perfect companion for exploring great outdoors
  • Priced from £27,505

This is the new Jaecoo E5 - and it’s an electric SUV that should get the wag of approval from your pooch.

In case you’re not familiar, Jaecoo is a burgeoning Chinese manufacturer that has already brought us the larger Jaecoo 7.

It’s fair to say that the Jaecoo products (and those of sister brand Omoda) have been a smash hit in the leasing world in 2025. After all, who doesn’t like affordably-priced SUVs that look way more expensive than they actually are?

Many have even likened the Jaecoo’s design to that of the Range Rover Evoque - which is a glowing comparison (even if you might need to squint a bit to see it).

Now Jaecoo has launched the E5. It’s a battery-powered companion to the traditionally-fuelled (and also recently launched) Jaecoo 5.

Here’s everything you need to know.

Is the Jaecoo E5 good for dog owners?

The E5 is geared for those who love the great outdoors, it’s got vehicle-to-load tech for when you need to blow-up your airbed when you go camping, and it’s also got a dedicated ‘Pet Mode’ which keeps the car’s cabin at a safe temperature when you’re parked up.

That’s really important for anyone who wants to keep their fur baby protected, as deadly heatstroke can still occur on relatively mild days.

What range does the Jaecoo E5 have?

The E5 is underpinned by a 61.1 kWh battery that offers a range of up to 248 miles between charges. The compact SUV supports public fast charging at 80 kWh, which can top the battery from 30 to 80% in around 27 minutes while the standard 11 kW AC charger makes overnight charging at home effortless.

How does that compare to rivals?

Well, it can’t hold a candle to the Kia EV3, which can journey up to 375 miles between trips to the plug, but fares well in comparison with the Ford Puma Gen-E, which gets a lesser 234-mile range.

Is the Jaecoo E5 well equipped?

As we see a lot with the new breed of Chinese manufacturers, the list of standard equipment is extensive.

The entry-level ‘Pure’ grade boasts a 13.2-inch portrait touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as a 540-degree panoramic camera and the aforementioned ‘Pet Mode’ for the cabin. The Pure trim also features a six-speaker Sony sound system, and ‘Level 2’ automated safety features which simultaneously control steering and speed.

The range-topping ‘Luxury’ grade adds goodies like a panoramic sunroof and uprated Sony sound system.

Should you lease the Jaecoo E5 or the Omoda E5?

Both Jaecoo and Omoda are owned by parent company Chery, and both the Jaecoo E5 and Omoda E5 have a similar 61 kWh battery, but there are subtle differences.

Omoda is a streetwise, urban-friendly electric SUV while the Jaecoo E5 is aimed more at those who love adventures in the great outdoors - and who also take their pets with them.

The Omoda’s styling is more sporty while the Jaecoo’s look is more ‘rugged’.

Both make great lease cars and both will be appealing to those on a budget.

Is the Jaecoo E5 practical?

The E5 comes with a generous 480-litre boot, which is okay for the class - if not the biggest.

The Ford Puma’s is vast at 574 litres (thanks to the underflood ‘GigBox’ storage) while the Kia EV3 lags behind at 460 litres.
