Citroen C3 gets radical new look

Citroen has unveiled a radical new look for its popular, petrol-powered C3 - as it transforms from a funky hatchback into a boxy crossover.

The C3 is a bit of an unsung hero in the vehicle leasing world, being both practical and affordable while also winning major industry awards for its design.

In fact, the C3 walked away with the ‘World Urban Car’ title at the last year’s World Car Awards, which is a significant achievement.

And now the C3 is moving with the times.

The all-new model - which will arrive in September this year - takes its style cues from the fully-electric Citroen e-C3, which was revealed last year. The e-C3 arrives sooner than the petrol C3, with order books opening this July.

There’s a definite SUV look to both cars, with an imposing, squared-off front end and bulky rear. It’s a real departure from the friendly and more rounded C3 of old.

The other big news is that the incoming C3 will be CHEAP - with prices beginning at £17,790. To put that figure into perspective, it undercuts a slew of rivals, including the VW Polo, Vauxhall Corsa and Suzuki Swift, while proving more expensive than the Dacia Sandero.

Citroen says the C3 is an ‘elegantly simple compact car that delivers best-in-class comfort, high levels of standard specification, and excellent value’.

But what do you actually get?

Alongside the completely redesigned exterior, there’s LED headlights fitted as standard alongside 17-inch alloys, black wheel arch extensions, front and rear skid plates and a two-tone roof with roof rails.

In fact, the Citroen C3 will be launched in just one trim - called ‘PLUS’ - and which also features a 10-inch touchscreen with smartphone mirroring, ‘Advanced Comfort’ seats and ‘Advanced Comfort’ suspension to the edge off the UK’s potholed roads.

There’s a decent list of tech, including a video-based active safety brake, driver attention alert, and lane departure warning system.

The C3’s engine is a 100 hp petrol unit mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. But Citroen says a self-charging hybrid powertrain will join the line-up by the end of the year.

The fully-electric e-C3, meanwhile, uses a 44 kWh battery to eke-out a range of 199 miles as well as power of 113 hp. The e-C3’s 100 kW DC rapid charging capabilities can also take the battery from 20% to 80% full in as little as 26 minutes.

The Citroen e-C3 will cost from £21,990.

Meanwhile you can lease the current Citroen C3 (below) with Select Car Leasing from just £170 per month*.
